Oh, but we could have made it controversial! 😉
Actually, it sounds like it would have been an interesting topic. Perhaps you will reconsider and make a new thread sometime. 🤔

Yes, I don’t know anything about that subject…would like to see a thread about it.

Perhaps this thread could be resurrected.

Edit: I see the thread is resumed. Thanks @LumineDiei.

To my knowledge, many parishes offer it. St. John Neumann promoted it in the USA, so it is pretty popular in Philadelphia area. I’ve seen it in other dioceses as well.

The confusing thing about it for me is that the churches all pick different times of the year to do it, so if you’re not attending one parish consistently, it is difficult to know when it is occurring in a particular place.

There have been some occasions in my Parish where we had a 40 hours devotion, however the problem (as we always have) is enough people willing to spend time with our Lord so that someone is always adoring him. We used to have 24 hours devotion every ember day, however since our Parish Priest was reassigned and we only recently got a Parish Administrator, we haven’t had it since last year.

I participated in a 40 Hours Devotion back when I was a teen in the '60s but I don’t think I’ve heard of such a devotion in any of the parishes I belonged to since then.

Glad to hear it was well attended! I hope to discuss with my new pastor about having a mission given by a Father of Mercy.

Dorothy:
The Fathers of Mercy have parish missions.
They did a mission in my parish. Well attended. Highly recommend them.
Those priests are wonderful.

The only places that have 40 Hours are traditional chapels in my diocese. No diocesan parish has it.

I haven’t heard of 40 hours devotion in parishes near me, but they do have adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at different times.

There is a nearby parish that has 24/7 Adoration, except during Mass and Holy Saturday. They have had it for many years. It is well organized. Other parishes near here has adoration once a week at varying times.

My own parish has it once a month on First Friday, for one day, starting after the First Friday Mass of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

40 Hours is so special, as I remember appreciating and being drawn in by the beauty of it as a child. I hope it comes back as parishioners, hopefully, will ask about it and cooperate with their pastor to make it a spiritual success.
