That’s where the increasingly out of wedlock rate leads us—to fatherless families, to single parent households. And to poverty, to poor education, to poor future prospects. Deliberate atomization of the family undermines the foundations of our society. Unless stable families again become the norm—not currently a likely proposition—our civilization will fail.

:blessyou:

That is destabilizing to society.
That hurts GOD’s feeling, if we really love Him then we should not do anything which will looks sin in His eyes.

(Genesis 6:6):
“The LORD regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled.”

Sorry, but when did I ever say it wasn’t that bad? Sin is bad and we are all horrible sinners. I was trying to point out (just in other phrasing) to hate the sin, but not the sinner. People tend to outcast these women who need help and need God. If we treat them like trash (as Catholics), why would they want anything to do with the Church? They wouldn’t.

I am glad the Church didn’t do that to my Mother in law when she became pregnant with my husband. Her making that mistake of premarital sex and getting pregnant, made her realize she needed to repent and come back into the fold of the Catholic Church. They accepted her and supported her with open arms. I am so glad they did. If they didn’t who knows, my husband may not have been raised a Catholic and may not be religious today.
Excellent post .👍

This. Not to mention that a sizable portion of the people in prison come from single parent (usually the mother) homes.
Where did you get your stats please? Is this throughout the world or only in the US? So are you saying most criminals become so because they did not have a father around.?

So tell me Severus, how are you celebrating their births? How much time have you spent in the company of an unmarried mother and her children? How much money have you sacrificed for the sake of these children? Do you tutor them? Take them to the doctor? Pay for their braces? Remember their birthdays? Help potty train them? Light candles for them in church? Listen to a beaten-down woman as she tries to cope with the life she has created for herself? I do not condemn the children born out-of-wedlock, but pity their cirucmstances and deplore these relentless trends which are the demise of Christian culture. Moreover, I have to pay for the lifestyles of these people as well. That is simply unfair. I have worked with these people for a long long time. Poor unmarried mothers face really tough, tough obstacles and the only way to turn it around for them is to practically adopt them and their children and graft them unto your own family tree. Who will protect these children if they are abandoned by their own father? Very few people are willing to do that, nor is that any guarantee of success, even measured in simple terms.
So children are not gifts from God?

No one I know wants pity. How would it be different if the child was born to a married couple and the father skipped before or just after birth?

Please do not make this personal. On your paying for children out of wedlock, I do not know how on earth you do but since you want to protect them, why is it unfair?

Let’s keep this to a discussion in an anonymous online forum. If you want to ask personal questions, you can PM me but whether I will respond would depend on how you write.

Where did I ever say that children are not a gift from God? Regardless, God is very clear about how and when children are to be brought into the world… and God’s law is what is best for children and their parents. And we (you and me) pay for the needs of poor families through taxes and government debt. There are limits. We pay for birth control, abortion, and the effects of lifestyle diseases too. But back to my post: I put forth a simple request: please tell me what you do to help these families directly (aside from taxes) or how you “celebrate” the births of children whose mother is unmarried and poor, and the baby’s father has left. Remember, you used the term “celebrate,” not I. This is an anonymous forum, so you are free to post your good deeds and intentions here. If you post nothing, then I shall assume that you don’t do much in that regard.

That is interesting. You insist I share personal details of my life or you make the assumption that I do nothing to …what?

Firstly, celebrating the birth of every child is not seeing any child as a hindrance, a ‘poor thing’, a symbol/evidence of sin but as a gift of God.

Secondly, I have no interest in continuing any discussion with someone who demands and then says if I do not give in to his/her demand, a negative assumption will be made about me,

I would say that the issue isn’t about what you do or not do. Last I checked the thread wasn’t about you. The thread is about the situation of children being born outside of wedlock. We need to keep on subject and not turn this into what we who are discussing do or don’t do.

Perhaps you should tell that to Cupofkindness. I was in a discussion, not a sharing or a rant. Helps to read through posts first and not just jump in.

I was posting in agreement with you. But, you know whatever.

We are amidst a time in which to be truly fatherly and to be truly a mother is becoming more and more against the law throughout society, and against societal social rules.

Tracing the problem of abortion to contraception is a start, but it is not the root, it is further along the branch towards the trunk.

If the corrupted tree is not cut down at the root, it will not fall. But then, I have heard it said more than once, that we are at a stage where a societal collapse is inevitable – there will be anarchy, though there will likely be tyranny first in an attempt to restrain it.

The corruption of social mores is too complete.

Things are bad, but I don’t think they’re THAT bad yet, shin. China is far worse than we are. They have compulsory abortion and sterilization for some people over there. We don’t have that. God willing, we hopefully never will.

The best way to deal with the current culture is not to look to the past and whine “oh my why???”

Wiser course of attitude and action is to look at Our Lord and the Samaritian woman at the well and deal with what is right now.

Take the culture as it is now, dont judge it. Rather, evangelize and be Christ to them by loving them and making Christ incarnate to them by your actions.

Judging and bellyaching and whining just turns people off.

Loving them, taking them for where they are at at the present moment and moving forward is the example left to us by Our Lord. 🙂

God Bless in your efforts to be the Image of Christ to those who cross your path. 👍

I have to agree with Shatterpoint and Kib. Although these women have committed a sin at least they have not committed a worse one by destroying the life they have created. I do think it is important that a child have a father figure but there is no reason why this can not be a grandfather or uncle.
A lot of unmarried mothers are partnered. My next door neighbors in California were unmarried, with an infant. They owned their house together. My brother is engaged to a woman who has four children. She has never married. They just bought property together, and have announced their engagement. But I wonder if they will ever marry.

My point is that many of these kids do have a male parent in the picture. They just are not marrying.

Why shine the light mainly on the women?
Because ultimately it is the female’s choice and her responsibility to protect herself from pregnancy. Males can’t get pregnant. I’m not sympathetic nor empathetic to the contemporary emotives that this is unfair that only females can get impregnated. I’m not sympathetic to any emotives that it’s unfair that the male anatomy is designed the way it is with the testicles being easily harmed.

We have our biological bodies and I will not hear the “unfairness” so-called “Mother Nature” has bestowed upon the female sex.

I disagree on all points. There have been terrible times all through the ages. This time is not unique. Mankind sins.

How is it more and more against the law to be truly a father and a mother?

It is the male’s choice to be decent and responsible and not so casually with a “couldn’t care less” attitude, impregnate the female. Just because the woman suffers the greater consequence does not mean she is more/most responsible. Thank goodness for many decent men.
