The church was wiped out–except for the hallway they were in.

""He saw the roof of the sanctuary rip off — one piece. We saw the doors fly open into the sanctuary space. My husband grabbed the door and he held on with everything (he had) to the other,’ Hughes said… We began to pray.”

“The parish’s deacon, Marcelino Espinosa, was at one end of the hallway as he began a rosary; Hughes was at the other end beginning the Divine Mercy chaplet.”

Thanks be to God for this salvation. Even if the fast thinking on the part of some people placed the people in the one save spot, that too was a grace of God.

A reminder to all to seek the smallest interior space in the event of a tornado.

Glad they were safe! Was that hallway specifically designed to be a storm shelter? Many buildings in tornado country have them built in. Still a very heartwarming story!

Folks in Tornado Alley, glad you’re safe. The pictures of the mile-wide wedge tornado are frightening indeed. There’s no standing up to an F-4.

Please, when you rebuild, put in a storm cellar! Get below ground level next time!
