I will be 46 years old in September and I am pregnant. I conceived naturally and I am about 14 weeks pregnant. My oldest daughter is 22 and will have her second child next month. My youngest is 8 years old. I really didn’t expect to be pregnant at my age but here I am. So I am looking for some moral support especially if there are any mom’s out there that had a child at my age. I am really anxious and overwhelmed and thinking of the worst since I am considered a high risk pregnancy. I would really like some reassurance and prayers please.

Thanks!

Congratulations! 😃

I had my youngest at 41. I remember I was going to a group ob/gyn and several of the doctors were quite rude and dismissive and I assumed it was my age

I remember I was 12 weeks pregnant and had terrible pains and went to the ER. They determined it was appendicitis and I would need to have surgery. Several of the doctors and the surgeon talked to me about abortion as they would need to do an appendectomy and the baby would most likely be harmed or born with some kind of deformity. I remember telling all of them that I was not in charge or they were not in charge so please perform the surgery. Surgery went fine and my daughter was born healthy in all respects 6 months later. God is in charge.

I think some doctors have a hard time with “older” pregnant women and some do not. I had a normal pregnancy in all respects and all my tests were well within the normal range. You are going to meet people that think you have made a bad decision and you will meet people that will be shocked. You will also meet people that will be happy for you. Just brush off the silly people.

There is great medical care these days so please do not stress. Pregnancy is stressful no matter how old you are. We all worry if our babies will be born healthy

I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Praying for you and your baby to St. Anne…be patient with yourself. Be aware that you should take the best care possible of yourself, ask for help from family and friends, ask your parish to pray for you, and place your and your baby in the loving hands of Our Lady.
I wish you all the best, for a happy pregnancy, and a safe delivery. May you be a beautiful example of faithfulness to all who watch your pregnancy progress in dignity and love.

Yes!

i had my son last year i was 42 high risk but everything was fine until four days before he was due i had placental abruption, but that can happen to any pregnant woman. i went through all the test for downs etc and was told that i was high risk for it because i was an older mum, but it turned out the results showed that the chance of me having a downs baby was the same as someone who was in their 20’s. i dont personal think age has anything to do with the high risk factor, Good luck and congrats to you. at least you have a baby sitter if needed 😛

You most certainly have our prayers. I hope all goes well for you and your unborn child. Yes, you may be high risk, but that does not mean things will go wrong. Hang in there, take care of yourself and let your older children help out when they can.

Congratulations!!!

I had my last (God’s decision, not mine) when I was 43 and everything went fine 🙂 A lady I knew slightly who was my age had her baby a week before mine was born; she was the same age and everything went fine for her too.

I once talked with an elderly lady of about 80. She had had 8 children, and she said, I guess that was irresponsible of me… so sad! Our society today just puts a low value on human life and has such anti-baby attitudes. Don’t pay any attention to them!!! God is giving your family this baby as a gift, thank Him and say a little prayer for anyone who says anything to you about it–they need it!!!

Congratulations and many prayers going out your way. In our town, the Catholic population is very fervent, so a 46 year-old expectant mother is not out of the ordinary. I have come to see fertility as a huge blessing ever since I have become aware of how many of our friends are infertile and incapable of having children of their own. I pray that God will work wonders in your life through this child.

You have all of my prayers. My story is a bit more lengthy and the circumstances were a bit different…so I’ll give you a couple high lights:

My spouse, my primary, and his family insisted that I abort because only a chance of having a less than a perfect baby was “a shame” to the family…in an Asian community. So much for “choice!”

The rest of my first pregnancy story is a terrible sideshow compared to the beautiful, healthy son I have now. There were complications and no one heard me until there was an emergency. Yet, I had it my heart to love and raise this child no matter its health.

I would like to spiritually adopt your baby and offer prayers every day. The only thing I ask is updates in this thread or PM.

When I was in my teens the mother of a girl I went to school with was 47 and “with child”. That child grew into one of the nicest men I have ever met and was a devoted son, husband and Catholic. 🙂

Congratulations!!! My niece is 41 and pregnant for the first time. She did not get married until she was 39. She was hoping to start a family ASAP. They tried and tried, and just accepted that ship may have sailed. She received a delightful surprise in May!

She knew that I was praying for her to conceive, and I was one of the first she called to share the news. I felt bad when my sister, her mom, was not as enthusiastic as I. However, once it was confirmed that baby and mom are going to be fine, she was delighted!

My mother was 40 when she had my youngest sister. And, I think she saved the best for last! I could not imagine my family without her!

Praying for you.🙂

My aunty (and godmother) kept having children into her late 40’s at which time her womb literally ‘fell out’. There is eleven of them and those last kids are now in their mid 20’s. Those last kids were more like communal kids as their older siblings fussed over and helped in some of the more routine child rearing duties.

“God grant you serenity to accept the things you cannot change” and let you fully embrace all the hidden fruits of later years motherhood!

Hey, it happens. It happened to the mother of my best friend. And guess what, she lived to 92. So cheer up. God wanted you to have another child and Bingo! Look at St. Elizabeth, mother of St. John.

God Bless
