This past election has brought previously obscure online communities like 4chan into public discourse. For the uninitiated, 4chan is an image board, originally for discussing anime, video games, etc., that allows users to post anonymously (this is where the troll group Anonymous got their name; users are typically addressed as “Anon”.) Meme like lolcats, trollface, and Pepe the Frog were popularized here.

With little to no moderation, 4chan has attracted the Internet’s largest collective of outcasts, freaks, losers, and dejected youths. Anyone says anything with almost no backlash.

Some of their antics include:
  1. Hijacking Mountain Dew’s “Dub the Dew” contest to name the new flavor “Hitler did nothing wrong”
  2. Making Kim Jong Un Time Magazine’s “Person of the Year” in 2012
  3. Falsely claiming Justin Bieber had cancer, and
starting a “Cut for Bieber” fad
  4. Tricking the Mainstream media into thinking the “okay” hand sign stands for “white power” (and many fell for it)
  5. Sabotaging actor Shia LaBeouf’s anti-Trump performance art project, “He Will Not Divide Us”, to the ends of the earth, dubbing it “the world’s largest game of Capture the Flag”
Is there anything wrong with thinking all of this is funny? Remember that everything 4chan does has an air of irony; they claim to do it “for the lulz”, i.e. to be pests and make people mad. Almost none of them are genuinely bigoted; they just like the see the sparks fly.

Typically, I just go there to lurk. I don’t participate in any of these raids; they’re just fun to read about (especially from "normie"media outlets)

Honestly, it seems like the internet version of a bunch of high school to college boys who think breaking rules for the heck of it is hilarious.

Saying prejudiced things against marginalized groups hurts them no matter the intention of the person saying them; it isn’t funny. Similarly, trying to get people to self-harm is sick; I’ve struggled with self-harm before and it makes me sick to think about. That isn’t a joke; that is the exacerbation of other people’s illness.

Precisely, until walter decides to cross that line…

If they’re not that age physically, they are mentally. And they know it; they don’t even pretend to have the high ground, moral or otherwise. They genuinely have no shame.

Which is why the general population- “normies”, as they call them- are so befuddled by them. How do you fight an enemy that’s just fooling around?

Most corners of the web they have the reputation for being that age physically too.

They also have a reputation, somewhat unsurprisingly, for being mostly male.

What is it about our culture that predisposes the young male to do this sort of thing anyway?

Because young women with troll personalities tend to be much nastier, but target people whom they know personally? Preferably, people whom they can isolate from other human contact and torment for years in the most sadistic ways possible?

4chan is annoying. Male trolls are annoying, and occasionally criminal.

Female trolls are out for blood.

Many feel left behind, ignored, and emasculated. They consider the world feminized and that the Establishment is out to denigrate and guilt-trip them for everything. Meanwhile, multiculturalism and liberalism is seen as destroying their European history for the sake of political correctness.

4chan dwellers call this “taking the red pill”, a nod to The Matrix, where Neo takes a red pill and wakes up to see the world as it is. Everyone else, meanwhile, takes the “blue pill”, which keeps them blissfully ignorant in their little lives.

Watch the movie Fight Club, and you’ll get a basic parallel of how 4chan became what it is today.

I remember them going on Tumblr and sending rape victims graphic rape GIFs. Disgusting.

Bored little boys (most of them are male).

Considering that’s not allowed especially for straight white men at colleges who have to follow nonsense like Black Power, Third-wave feminism and other regressive left hate ideologies or risk getting ostracized from polite society and/or bad grades, it’s not wonder people are lashing out here.

Personally, I don’t think lies are funny. Really, fake cancer?

If people don’t like it, just change the channel as Hannity would say.

No one is forcing anyone to go there and read their stuff. And if there is some of slander or defamation, well, there is a proper legal route for that.

If people are feeling down, the place to go is a Catholic Church, not 4-chan. 😃

I’ve dabbled in this on-line culture of “oh but we care more about you than your family and yourself”.

Um, no, I don’t think so a lot of the time.

If you’re hurt by something on the internet, you should not be on it. You’re going to get hate no matter what or how you speak, unless maybe you’re in an Eskimo forum or something.

Also, it doesn’t matter where you go and no matter how much you inform (that’s as nicely as I can put it) administrators. You just have to roll with it or not participate, and no matter how much the far left and radical Islam may want to control what comes out of someone else’s mouth, it’s not going to happen.

Some folks really should not be on-line communication casually with others if they are at risk of self-harm, or if they are overly scrupulous. The latter is too common on here, I think.

If people think this is bad, they should see the PMs I’ve gotten from people on here over the years.

Ever heard of doxxing? Or swatting?

(Also, frankly, depending on where you life Churches can be some of the worst places to go when you’re down. Sorry, not how it should be, but often how it is.)

It is for the greater glory of their Kek
Perhaps, remind me again how many innocent civilians the Kek have killed.

See, I think for the most part (and I do mean barring only mental illness) people really choose what WORDS keep them up at night.

While I may disagree with the majority of 4-chan and don’t use it, I do have friends that do, and they say it is generally a safe place (minus the porn). 4-chan is not supposed to be a serious forum like CAF. Many memes are started through 4-chan.The trolls are on all platforms so don’t make it a 4-chan only thing. I am in a group on Facebook which is like /pol/ (a subsection of 4-chan), but for Catholics and Orthodox. Through that, I can get a general idea of 4-chan (without the cancer). I would give 4-chan 5/10 just for the memes. The website is medicore.

Question: What is with the 4-chan obsession on CAF I have been seeing recently?

This. I never participated at 4chan myself, but I was part of a different internet social group that had a similar “for the lulz” mentality, though not as random or chaotic as 4chan. There was crossover in the community, though.

But the cancer is what makes 4chan, well, the wellspring of Internet culture 🙂

Maybe there’s a super-covert raid against CAF, who knows?

I’m not sure, but if it’s virtue-signaling to the First World far left it’s going to fail miserably in short order.

Also, there have been a lot of posts on here lately that love to pick the safe target, which is pretty much anyone with anything that is right of the regressive left and most definitely not Islam.
