Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which the Lord your God gives you.
I met a person who took his parents home and care until they died. After a year, she also died, she was in her 40. Someone explain this in relation to the 4 commandment?

God promises long life on this earth:confused:
God promises eternal life to those who follow his commandments. The land where this woman’s days will be long is the new Earth that God raises at the end of time.

The ten commandments are from the law given to Moses and at this time God did not promised eternal life. By Moses you got the promise for long life, money, many children… Just read the pentateuch, you will never find a “heaven” promise there.

You don’t take care of your parents because you expect to win a long life if you do. You do it because this is what God wants you to do and you do it because you love them or at least respect them.

Your friend, be it he or she, certainly is not up there after death arguing that this is not what he/she signed up for and is certainly not demanding to come back to earth for the promised long life here. I’m sure he/she is delighted to be with God and to be reunited with his/her parents.

👍

maybe said person would have died in her/his twenties from a car accident or something else, but since G0d knew he/she’d make the right decision and care for the parents, this person lived twenty years longer than he /she would have normally have…
