When you disobey your parents, is it always a grave matter? Or does it depend on what you disobeyed?

For example, if Bob throws the ball in the house and his mother tells him to stop, but he continues to do it but then stops a minute later, would that be a mortal sin?

Or would I have to be a more serious matter like if Bob’s parents tell him not to sneak out at night but he still does?

Neither of these are likely mortal sin, even the sneaking out of the house, except if, perhaps it was for something grave like dealing drugs or something like that. Very often, especially in the case of children, it’s venial sin.

What CAN be mortally sinful, is cursing them, verbally abusing them, abandoning them in their time of need, or even physically hitting them.
