Tomorrow will be my third month of doing the 5 First Saturdays Devotion. I know that I must say a rosary, go to Confession (within 8 days), receive Communion, and meditate for 15 minutes on the mysteries of the rosary. I know that these 4 things must be done in a spirit of reparition for sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary, but I’m not sure I realized that when I started the devotion. I did at least know that Communion and Confession were to be done with that intention. Now I am thinking back to the first month that I did the devotion, and I am questioning whether I said my rosary in reparation for sins against the Immaculate Heart of Mary. I am thinking that it is a good possiblity that I said my rosary with the intention of making a good Confession that day. Last month I did say my rosary with the proper intention; however, I might have also included the intention of making a good Confession (I can’t remember). I am also uncertain that I meditated for 15 minutes on the mysteries of the rosary these past two months with the proper intention. If you were me, would you add another month (or even two) to the 5 months’ devotion, just to make sure I completed them with the proper intention, or would you trust that God was simply pleased that I began the devotion and just try to finish it on schedule? Now I’m just getting confused.

Dear Veronica97

You are doing just fine. Like you stated, it’s the intention that counts.
Don’t let your mind be filled with scruples? The Rosary may be recited at any convenient time of the day, and the 15 minute meditation on the Rosary mysteries can also be made at any time during the First Saturday day.The meditation may be either on one mystery alone for 15 minutes or on all 15 mysteries spending about one minute on each mystery or again on two or more mysteries.

There are many who seem to be worried because though they try to observe the First Five Saturdays they fail to remember to make the intention of reparation in due time for confession, communion, meditation or the rosary recitation. This difficulty may be overcome by making a resolution at the very start when one decides to observe the First Five Saturdays for the next 5 consecutive months and resolve that all the acts or devotions connected with them will be offered in reparation to the Immaculate Heart.

In other words, on the first Saturday of the month (before you start your first 5 Saturdays) make your intention to offer your (1) confession, (2) communion, (3) 5 decades of the Rosary, (4) the 15 minute meditation in the spirit of reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary for five consecutive months. You can also make your intention on the first Saturday of each month if you prefer. If you really want to please the Blessed Virgin Mary try making the First Five Saturdays every month, not just a one time first five.

I have been doing the First Five Saturdays for years. I made my 1st five starting in January and continued doing them. Today is the 1st Saturday of August. Since I do the First Five Saturdays on a continuous basis I go to Confession every month. Sometimes I do not go to confession on the 1st Saturday. I go the next day or during the week.

But, on that special day, when I get up in the morning, I offer my confession
(if I go that day) , rosary, communion and 15 minute meditation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary with the intention of making reparation for all the offenses committed against Her Immaculate Heart.

As for the 15 meditation on the Rosary mysteries my preference is on just the Sorrowful Mysteries. I find it easy to think and concentrate on them even though I try meditating on the Joyful and Glorious Mysteries at other times.

But, before I start my 15 minute meditation I always ask the Blessed Virgin Mary to help me to CONSOLE HER. We all have a weak human nature and our minds can be filled with distractions. It’s all in the intention. To make reparation for the 5 kinds of offenses and blasphemies committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
  1. Blasphemies against the Immaculate Conception
  2. Blasphemies against Her Virginity
  3. Blasphemies against Her Divine Motherhood
  4. Blasphemies against those who openly seek to instill indifference and hatred in the
hearts of children for the Immaculate Heart of Mary
  5. The offenses of those who directly insult and outrage Her in holy images and statues.
