5 Nonnegotiables

The pastor at my parish just said that we could not distribute the “Voters Guide for Serious Catholics” because it does not have an imprimatur or nihil obstat.

Even though it contains quotes and references from 7 different doctrinal texts from the Vatican, he contends that the 5 non-negotiables are cherry-picked.

His bone of contention was the first 4 are fine, because they are all life issues, which is first in the hierarchy of Catholic social teachings - but homosexual “marriage” is one interpretation of one aspect of the “family life” social teaching. His concern is: why this one issue? why not something about the environment or the homeless? Odd, that if there were just 4 non-negotiables, he may not have had a problem with it.

Anyway, is there any news about why there has not yet been an imprimatur or nihil obstat granted to the Voters Guide by any bishop anywhere in America? Have they tried and been given any reasons why not?
I don’t know why the Imprimatur has not been given to the Voters Guide for Serious Catholics. The Priests For Life organization also has a voters guide very similar to the one put out by CAF. They are both very clear, straighforward and according to Catholic Doctrine. It would do no good to put an imprimatur on the USCCB document because it is as clear as mud, wasn’t any help in the last election and never will be unless ALL the Bishops exlain it clearly to the laity who don’t understand what is being said. Gee do we have any left wing clergy? :hmmm:

The second “group” are example of LIFE issues. Not saying the first group of one issue is not, but euthanasia, Embryonic Stem Cell Research, Human Cloning and Homosexual Marriage were all more hidden agenda issues in the last POTUS run off. They all carry the same moral weight. All five are non-negotiable issues, ie, they are all Intrinsically Evil.

You will find, that that three of those four not mentioned in the first group with abortion have been supported by the government. A big war to get homosexual marriage legalized, (some states have already done so. I believe something is cooking to making these unions so legal they will have to be upheld as legal unions if the parties file for divorce in another state whether that state has legalized the union, or not. Could be already cooked. I don’t know for sure). Embryonic stem cell research approved, so far no human cloning has been approved, but can it be far behind? Euthanasia, assisted suicide, has been approved in three states Washington, Oregon and Montana. Which state is next? Cold blooded reptiles (I’m taling snakes here) hibernate in the Winter, but be on the lookout for them when Spring comes around and they have the ability and right situation to strike. So it will be with the remaining non negotiables you mentioned

In North Texas our Bishop says
  1. Abortion
  2. Abortion
  3. Abortion
  4. Abortion
  5. Abortion
Outside north Texas
  1. Abortion
  2. Euthanasia
  3. Embryonic Stem cell research
  4. Human Cloning
  5. Homosexual Marriage
Some other Bishops agree with the first part

Embryonic stem cell research approved and funded, so far no human cloning has been approved, but can it be far behind? Euthanasia, assisted suicide, has been approved in three states, Washington, Oregon and Montana. Which state is next? What are the five nonnegotiable teachings of the Catholic Church? Are priests instructed to talk about them at any time during the liturgical year?

Thank you.
If not, they should be instructed to mention them every Sunday. But then they would probably get a slap on the hand for being too Pro LIFE.

I vote my conscious. I do not believe there is a place for the Church to “instruct” me how to vote. I will live with the consequences. Life can not, in my estimation, be boiled to five singular non negotiables.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but sweetie, you will also die with the consequences. So be very careful how that conscience is formed. As Father Frank Corapi has said, “In the end, you and I will go one of two places, Heaven, or Hell.”

Your position is pretty much exactly what the US bishops said in their document on voting. Of course, they took quite a few pages to say the same thing.
Yeah, they did a great job of leading the sheep, didn’t they?

Also, I’m not sure God has time to worry about who is running for every public office in every city, county, state, country, etc. There are a few more pressing issues for God to spend his time on.
God worries about birds and lilies. What makes you think He is not watching over how we are caring for our immortal souls?

The five non negotiables were on the front moral burner this past POTUS election. There are many more non negotiable, but these were the ones to be voted against.
These “Five Non-Negotiables” were created as a list of things that are politicized and that we have the opportunity to affect when we vote. de fide dogmas such as one’s mandatory Sunday obligation are “non-negotiable”, but to date I have not seen a politician run on a platform of making Sunday Mass LEGALLY mandatory. The five listed are, and have been already described as, intrinsically evil. There is nothing about abortion, cloning, euthanasia, same sex marriage, and embryonic stem cell research that permits a Catholic to vote for them in good conscience. Now, there are some apologists who will play a game of mental gymnastics that say that it is okay to vote for a pro-abortion (and if they are pro-abortion, they are nearly unanimously pro-everything-else-on-the-list). They will say “I can vote for this person who has a 100% rating from NARAL, because they are champions of social justice and defenders of the poor”.

And one cannot vote for the man who will make the trains run on time if he will also be complicit in the slaughter of Jews.

Don’t forget the “economics” . Bo promised he would take care of all those heating and electricity bills. At least that is how some, who had their heads in the clouds, interpreted his statements to “take care of everything”.

If I am not mistaken, Barack Obama, the candidate, quite candidly vowed that electricity costs would “necessarily skyrocket” under his plan of carbon taxing.

Yeah, darn it, you’re right, he did, but I don’t think many liberals were watching him that day.🙂
