I have a strong desire to pray for several people (about 15 of them) I know who are not Catholic. They are either cradle Catholics that now reject the faith, or staunch protestants who think Catholicism is dead wrong. Some are friends, some are family members.

I would like to start a 54 day novena for their conversion (or at least make a dent in their hard-as-rock skulls 😃 ).

Here is my question: Is it OK to say one rosary a day for all 15 people? Should I actually make a list of their names and keep it with me as I pray? How do I approach this properly?

Many thanks!

I could be wrong but I thought that novena consisted of 15 decades a day for 54 days.

No way, can’t be, for both of you.

I’m trying to do one now, and each rosary, 5 decades, takes almost 40 minutes.

I don’t see how you could do 15 (or 20) decades a day for 54 days, let alone 15 whole rosaries.

Well, maybe 15, but even still, that’s over 2 hours a day…

Ahh, I misunderstood you – I thought you were going to do 15 rosaries a day  😃

Anyway, I came across this site,

catholicity.com/support/praywithus.html

and in the middle it points out that “Our lady is not a bureaucrat”.

I have also read before, I believe it was Jesus, telling someone not to worry so much about form as about substance.

For my 54-day novena, for some reason I often seem to start at 11:30 p.m. and I usually end at 12:05 a.m. Today, I finished at 12:48. I guess it’s the procrastinator in me. Anyway, I worried about it for a while, regretting that I didn’t meet the appropriate time limitation. But eventually, I just told myself that my rosary will turn into a pumpkin right at midnight…

So my point is that I believe it can be done.

I do it all the time…

So, I’m gathering from the posts so far that one rosary (5 decades) a day with a list of names in front of me (so I remember all of them!) is a good way to do this?

🙂 🙂

I have not reviewed the proper scientific data ( 😃 ) but I just can’t see how form would overrule substance…

I do the 54 day novena frequently, and I always include more than one person in my novenas. I usually do them for people out of work and there is always more than one I am praying for. My other request is usually that my children, my siblings children, and my friends children meet and marry Catholic people. So if multiple requests are not good, then I am a guilty party. I just thought that the Blessed Mother and our Creator could multi task.

Thanks Fitz and CSN. I guessed as much but wanted to make sure I was praying this novena correctly. This will be my first time to make this novena.

I have a list of about 15 people who have either turned away from the CAtholic Church or will not even consider what it teaches. So, when I pray for them, I want to use the “big guns” 😃

Please include “Little Mary’s prayer list” in your prayers today… 🙂

“Little Mary’s prayer list” – I looked that up on the net before I realized what you meant…

Ok, sure, since you asked. 🙂

Will you pray for the souls in purgatory? www.mtep.com

Ok, take it easy.

One final thing: I noticed my posts above lack coherence:

a) “I guess you can do 15 [decades] but still it will take 2 hours.”

b) “My rosary will [not] turn into a pumpkin at midnight.”

Should proofread, always… :whacky:

Good day, everyone :tiphat:
