I’ve never heard of a 54 day novena.

Is this a modern innovation?

Novena, of course, refers to nine days of praying a particular prayer / devotion.

I would doubt it matters what time of day you pray the Rosary.

But don’t give up, it’s a great meditative prayer for every day.

God bless,
Deacon Christopher

I am doing it but like with my past attempts at 54 day rosary novenas, I get behind. Right now I am 4 rosaries behind. This is I think my 3rd or 4th Rosary novena and it’s way better than the first one I did, where I got something like 23 rosaries behind and had to make heroic efforts to catch up to the group by the end. I did something like 13 rosaries in one day to catch up with that one. There are also reflective prayers that go with them and though I completed all the rosaries, I did not finish all the reflective prayers until a month after the end date, at Thanksgiving.

I always ask God who is outside of human time to please move my prayers to the appropriate day.

As for time of day, say it any time. From my perspective if you’re just getting it said on the right day and not having to play catch up like me, you’re doing good.

No, it’s a traditional devotion dating from 1884 and is basically each set of the three original sets of mysteries said nine times in petition and again nine times in Thanksgiving. (It was invented way before the Luminous Mysteries, so those are not included.)

Father Richard Heilman leads a couple of 54-day novenas online each year and has written a book of reflections to go with them, that focus on different gifts of the Holy Spirit and fruits of the Holy Spirit and contains lots of quotes from saints and Fr. John Hardon. I am trying to do the “Novena for Our Nation” right now with Fr. Heilman’s group.

May God bless you both on this lovely commitment.

By meditating on the lives of Jesus and Mary may you be transformed by their examples, and strengthened in your witness to a world starving for holiness.

I’ve started it since the Feast of the Assumption. Sometimes when I have busy days I have to break it up, like if I can only manage 3 mysteries when I’m breaking for lunch I will continue the rest of it after work.

Sometimes I’ll even listen and pray along to a youtube video during work, or if it’s late at night and I know I’ll start to feel tired and distracted. Or if it’s really late at night I’m not going to wring my hands if my day’s rosary is technically after midnight (I’m a night owl artist who likes to work at night) – it’s still daytime back home in the US 😛

It’s ideal if you can find quiet time alone to just say the prayer but sometimes you have to get creative.

I’m doing the same one (for the nation), greetings on the front lines 😅

I’m not currently saying the 54-day Rosary Novena, but for cases like these, the best is to set a specific time to say the Novena everyday and stick to it (unless circumstances forbid, then postpone the timing).

I am on day 26 of the 54 day Novena for the Nation led by Father Heilman. I am greatly enjoying it. I have wanted to make saying the rosary everyday a part of my prayer life but usually only stuck with it for a few days at a time. So now I am on 26 so that’s the most days in a row I have ever gone.

For me I just refused to go to sleep until I have done it. Usually I try to do it first thing in the morning and that has been the best for me.

It gets easier as you go along to pray it.

I prayed mine starting on a day that would have the first 27 in one calendar month and the second 27 in the next calendar month.

I think also as my intention was so important to my life it was in the forefront of my mind.

Hang in there, Comrade!
I wonder if all the recent events which happened after this Novena started will draw a bigger crowd to the DC rally on the end date? I’m hoping to go to that again this year. I feel it’s important for Catholics to be seen in DC praying. Not for the sake of having people applaud them (which won’t happen anyway) but as a witness for the faith.

It wouldn’t surprise me if there’s a larger crowd. I’d go if there wasn’t an ocean in the way.

If you are already in the habit of the daily Rosary, the added task is to track the days, you can do it.

It might also help to separate the decades so you can say one decade whenever you have some free time. Saying the part before the mysteries when you after youare awake in the morning might also be a good help.
