Zenit’s editors quit over Legion decision
Rome, Italy, Oct 10, 2011 / 10:24 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Zenit news service’s six editors resigned their positions Oct. 7, citing their disagreement with the Legionaries of Christ’s plans to increasetheoutlet’sties to the order.
In a statement signed by the six editors, and addressed to Zenit readers, the editors state, "After years of fruitful collaboration with the Legionaries of Christ, we disagree with the decision of the congregation to underline the institutional dependence of the agency on the Legion.
ā€œThe initial vision of ZENIT was never to make it a service of a particular congregation, but rather of the universal Church. This has been the spirit with which we have worked throughout the years, and the spirit we could not betray.ā€
ā€œWe warmly thank all our readers for their loyalty and support throughout the years, and we hope to be able to continue to work for the Church and for all those who seek the truth, in another manner, but always with the same spirit,ā€ they said.

I guess it will be interesting to see what happens to Zenit in the future. I have found it to be a great resource for Catholic news. But if it turns into a newsletter for the Legionaries, I think I would unsubscribe.

I didn’t know that Zenit had any connections with the Legionaries of Christ. This is the first time I’ve heard of it.

Same here. I’ve looked to Zenit for Catholic news off and on for probably 10 years at least and I never knew they were connected with the Legionaries. Perhaps that’s why the Legionaries want to increase their presence in Zenit. :o
