60 minutes with Cardinal O'Malley, anyone watch?

In a recent 60 Minutes Program, according to Norah O’Donnell, Cardinal Seán, “the archbishop of Boston,” told her “about working with Pope Francis to remake the Catholic Church.

What change? Maybe the Church will advocate capitalism.

According to Vatican Radio, Pope Frank thinks that “we need people who have the courage to take the initiative. Pope Francis stressed that taking the initiative in this way means overcoming a tendency to always ask the state or other bodies for assistance but instead use our creative talents to find new ways of earning a living.”

My family debates these ideas at the dinner table, and one of our guests mentioned how the Pope sounded like a Republican Politician because the The Personal Responsibility Act, a Republican Bill, which had provisions about “work requirements to promote individual responsibility” and.requirements for “recipients to participate in work programs after 2 years” of receiving public assistance, and complete termination of assistance “payments after five years,”

I don’t know if this is a change, but both Pope Frank and the Republicans sound like capitalists to me.

I live in a family of capitalists, so naturally I like capitalism. Our capitalism differs from the normal modern capitalism. My father, his brothers, and cousins own the capital and provide the labor with which which we earn our living.

We also participate in modern capitalism. We own shares in companies, and we never meet the people who provide the labor.

I’m surprised to learn that Pope Frank promotes capitalism. I thought that the Church favors communism.

Well yes, I’m a total ditze. Communists are Ateists.

However, I wonder if the Church would object to a world in which the Pope were the leader of a giant, world wide commun. At least, I would think that if I had not seen how the Pope espouses personal initiative.
