Preterist tell us that all of Mathew 24 is fulfilled. I had one guy tell me the earthquakes mentioned in it were the “earth shaking events around &70 AD.”

CHRIST

ON

MATTHEW 24:34

“This Generation will not pass away…”

Excerpt :

But listen. My phrase should be understood thus: “This generation (I was surrounded by the Apostles and disciples, that is, believers in Me) will not pass away, this generation of My sons, of the sons of God—because whoever believes in Me and welcomes Me is born in God and of God, and acquires the right to be a son of God, as was said by John in the beginning of his Gospel and in his first Epistle (Chaps. 4 & 5)—this generation will not pass away before the end of the world comes with all its foreshadowing and final signs.”

Because if it is true that at the end of time there will be little faith, since few will have known how to persevere to the end by resisting the doctrines of the false prophets, of the antichrists or (if you prefer) the sons of Satan, it is also true that faith in Me will not die, and there will be those who believe in Me on every continent.

Therefore “this generation,” Mine, that of the “sons of God”, will not have passed away, died, or been destroyed, before I return.

Thus was My phrase to be interpreted, and thus should it be interpreted in order to be understood in its truth. But be patient with him who understands it badly, even if he is an Apostle or Scholar, bearing in mind that even the Apostle and Scholar is still and always a man.

666 is Nero.

I was arguing this 666 thing with a guy a number of years ago. On a whim, while we are arguing, I took his name (sorry, I do not remember it) and worked out the number of this name by assigning sequential numbers to each letter of the English alphabet. I was surprised and amused at the result, which was, no kidding, 666.

I told that to the guy and he left the room. 🤣

Ah, guys. 666 was referring to Nero. That is the answer to the OP’s question.

END OF THREAD it should be. All else off topic.

I’m not going to keep going. I doubt any of you will get the message, you’re all going to adhere to what you already believe.

People who interpret can’t ignore the grammar and the antecedents used.
Ah, fella, you cannot prove anything by the grammar of the English language. You need to go back to the Greek and Hebrew, and then that will be meaningless, unless you have studied those languages for many years.

And on the other, aren’t you going to adhere to what you already believe?

We need to stay close to the Catholic Church, which is the only definitive authority to interpret the bible.

“The greatest impediment Christians have obtaining Truth is when they think they already have it.”*

"It’s easier to take a sliver out of the backside of a wild cat than it is to change the mind of a Christian."

"It’s more difficult for Christians to UNLEARN something than it was for them to learn it in the first place."

Those are my quotes, special, just for you…
but you can also CONSIDER this Chinese proverb…

"FROM ERROR TO ERROR WE DISCOVER TRUTH."

What a detailed explanation of the issue! Congrats!

Do you have recourse to discuss your theories with others who have theology directed education?

How do you know the extent of my education? Do you reply and just fire from the hip and spew things out you ASSUME about me and my replies? Maybe you should just pay more attention.
I know what you were doing. I am very familiar with the Greek and Hebrew interlinear and Strong’s. I use those texts all the time to “try” to better understand. But, it is not possible to attempt a thorough analysis as you are attempting by using those texts.

I use to be associated with the Translation Workshop at the University of Iowa. I am very familiar with how translation works. To do what you are attempting takes thorough knowledge of the Greek and Hebrew, which takes years to master. Have you done that? What school and degrees?

Is it bad that I listen to music that constantly references the devil and uses his symbols as logos? I’m not a satanist myself of course.

I can’t partake in the Eucharist and other sacraments because I’m non trinitarian. That hurts me, and I know why.
Whoa, wait a minute. You do not believe in the Trinity. That makes you a heretic and not Christian. As a non-Christian you haven’t a hope to interpret the Bible accurately as that takes the Holy Spirit, whom you do not have, and the Catholic Church with which you are not a member.

In that case, and on that alone, you cannot do apologetics on this board as this forum is for Catholic apologetics.

Furthermore, you are lying in your profile when you say you are “Catholic/other”. There is no kind of Catholic who denies the Trinity, there is no Christian of any stripe who denies the Trinity. Such people and groups denying the Trinity, are by definition, not Christian at all. This is a formal declaration of the Church.

Discussion with you is ended.

It is not good. St. Paul warns us:
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
The music you describe hardly fits the bill. What you allow into you mind will effect your mind. That is why the Church tells us to guard our senses.

You prove my point. Ego galore. You know better than the Greek and Hebrew scholars. 🤣

Bye Bye

Hi Harry Stotle, Please do I await your more on this!
There is so much that could be said about this. In fact, Michael Barber’s book Coming Soon: Unlocking the Book of Revelation and Brant Pitre’s works, The Case For Jesus, Who is the Whore of Babylon? and Jesus and the End Times do lay out the bigger case that David Currie and others (including many early Church Fathers) in the past also made.

I will restrict my points in this post to demonstrating that the Harlot was not the Beast and to make the case that the three characters, the Dragon (Satan), the Beast (the Roman Empire, specifically but any empire generally) and the Harlot (the city of Jerusalem) are readily identifiable from Revelation itself and from Old Testament symbols, prophecies and events.

The case is much larger than what I can lay out here, but there should be enough in what I say to establish the credible case (borrowing heavily from Brant Pitre’s outline on his talk Who is the Whore of Babylon?

The Claim that Jerusalem is the Whore of Babylon

1) John specifically states that the Harlot or Whore is Jerusalem.

“And the woman that you saw is the great city which has dominion over the kings of the earth.” (Rev 17:18) This is the same great city that he had earlier measured.
Rise and measure the temple of God and the altar and those who worship there,… …the beast that ascends from the bottomless pit will make war upon them and kill them, and their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which is allegorically called Sodom and Egypt, where their Lord was crucified. (Rev 11:7-8)
2) In the Old Testament, Jerusalem is frequently referred to as the whore or harlot who continually abandons and betrays the Lord, her "husband."

“How the faithful city [Jerusalem] has become a harlot, she that was full of justice! Righteousness lodged in her, but now murderers” (Isaiah 1:21)

“How lovesick is your heart, says the Lord GOD, seeing you did all these things, the deeds of a brazen harlot… Adulterous wife, who receives strangers instead of her husband!” (Ezekiel 16:1-32)

God even told the prophet Hosea to marry a harlot to demonstrate that the same relationship existed between “the land” and God. “Go, take to yourself a wife of harlotry and have children of harlotry, for the land commits great harlotry by forsaking the LORD.” (Hosea 1:2)

For a spirit of harlotry has led them astray, and they have left their God to play the harlot. (Hosea 4:11)
