7 churches Revelations

In revelations it talks about 7 churches. Could you please express
your thoughts on this. From a Catholic point of view.
I thought there were only 2 churches up until the Protestant
Reformation. Eastern Orthodox and the Roman Catholic.
 
In modern language we would call the 7 churches of Revelation 7 dioceses or parishes. They were not independent churches, each with its own theology and liturgy. They were all churches/dioceses/parishes of the one Church founded by Jesus Christ on the Apostles.

And there aren’t many churches today, either. There is only the Catholic Church, within which there are several rites (the Latin rite being the most populous and the one in which the pope celebrates the liturgy), and on the other hand, bodies of Christian believers that are imperfectly joined to the one Church, such as the Orthodox and most Protestant denominations (those that have a valid baptism).
 
if you look how the 7 churches are placed you will find that they virtually make a circle. that circle represents the universatility of the catholic church.
