I actually consider that a profound error, as would most Lutheran theologians through history.
I know. I’ve seen some of the countless times you’ve had to correct people on these forums about this.

But im this case, that can be forgiven as a genuine misunderstanding from the Catholic side.

I’ve seen way too many people, Catholic or Protestant, who would say Lutherans or even Catholics view the Supper as symbolic…

I think the article is above average, if the intent is to motivate ordinary people into learning more about the deeper theological issues. It nudges on all the important differences - justification, hermeneutics, authority. A person who reads a short article like this, and finds it interesting, may eventually stumble across these forums. Then people like you and GKC can further educate them about the non-monolithic protestant motleydom!

Any generalization is never precise, that is my point as I have added differences to the article. For the differences are too numerous to name here. I called the term Protestant into question which cannot be used today to group all Non-Catholic Christians separated from the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic faith. I would not include those who practice the seven valid sacraments as protestant, some of these still profess the Apostolic faith but remain in schism which is not protestant from a Catholic perspective.
I believe a comparison was not sought in the article but a respectful difference. I can’t find a difference in doctrine. For the fact that protestant doctrine cannot be made doctrine unless it meets the scrutiny of divine revelation. God never gave divine revelation to neither of the original Protestant reformers. The Protestant reformers did just that; Reformed Apostolic divine revelation. How does one challenge a divine revelation and change it to be called a Protestant doctrine? I don’t know what a “common American Protestant and Catholic” is? I would agree with you that the many diverse differences “cannot be perfect in every way”. I am not disagreeing with the article, but calling into question what is considered a doctrine from divine revelation in general and the title Protestant has taken on many different cultures and faith’s today than when the original Reformers took on the title of Protestant.
Peace be with you
