Prayers for the young lady and her family. Disgusting and horrific 😭… 20 years is not long enough … I pray they receive and serve the full sentence. No early release for whatever reason - ever. 😠

The mom found the video online.
The teenager woke up after a night of partying at a Providence, Rhode Island, house to find herself naked in a shower, surrounded by men who were laughing and taking pictures, the police said.

She went to the police almost immediately, but the case stalled with little to go on beyond the girl’s painful memories from that night in December. Then, in March, the girl’s mother found a video of her daughter being sexually assaulted that one of the perpetrators had posted on Facebook.

That’s really a rough looking bunch. And this happened in Providence? Amazing, how sad.

Eight males and there were actually more males there. This is a 16 year old girl who blacked out after being given alcohol. She reported the incident in December and nothing was done until her mom found they were so brazen and proud that the males posted a video of the rape on facebook.

I doubt they will get jail sentences. Some might but there will be a lot of denial, pleas bargains and probation so it will go somewhere but I am glad they were prosecuted.

Yes facebook. Truly, it makes you sick.
When she awoke, she was naked in the shower, surrounded by eight to 15 men, Major Lapatin said.

Stuff like that has ended up on social media many times before. Various companies use a technology from Microsoft to prevent repeat posts for photographs of that nature (I do not know if it works on videos).

The Microsoft technology calculates what is called a “perceptual hash.” The perceptual hash is just a long number. These numbers are distributed to various service providers (Facebook, Twitter, Google, Verizon, …). A great attribute of this solution is that only these numbers must be shared, not the original images. When ever media is uploaded to a service provider they calculate its perceptual hash. If the result is in the list of known bad media, the media is not posted and the attempt to post is immediately reported to police.

This technology only works for known media. When someone makes a new image, it isn’t in the database. But after an authority discovers the image they can add the image’s hash to the database to prevent it from being distributed.

Additionally, Facebook uses this to address problems with people sharing intimate images as revenge. If a person has reason to believe that someone may share an image and has a copy of the u.k mage themself, they can get it added to this restricted media list to proactively prevent it from being shared on Facebook.
