Um…The Pope does not have his own version of the CIA. There is no Vatican secret service. So you do not need to fear. Large priest in dark sunglasses do not knock on disobedient Catholic doors when we disagree with Rome.🙂

Really? Man, I was hoping I was joining a more powerful organization. Maybe you’re wrong, though. After all, no one expects the Spanish Inquisition!

I totaly agree. I like The Passion Of The Christ. There is alot about Catholic beliefs I agree with. I just happen to have opinions that differ from Catholic beliefs. Which sadly if I was a Catholic I would have been silenced by the Pope by now. No wait I am not silenced that is a good thing. Ha-ha God bless you all it is a fun conversation. I love debate 👍
You love debate? I would never have guessed that from your posts here. You basically have shown us that you have some serious misconceptions about Catholicism, and you haven’t addressed the posts here that seek to correct them. If you want to debate, then do it.

If you think that the Pope would have “silenced” you for having opinions contrary to Catholic teaching, then you have serious mental problems and I hope you will get some help. I suppose it’s possible that you are referring to the extremely rare occasions when a dissenting Catholic teacher or theologian is told to quit passing off their dissent as authentic Catholic teaching. This does not have to “silence” anyone—they are perfectly free to continue to express their opinions, they just can’t call it authentic Catholic teaching. In that sense it’s no different from the Southern Baptist Convention requiring that ministers not be atheists if they are going to call themselves Baptists. If that sort of “silencing” scares you, then, as I mentioned earlier, you have serious problems and need to be seeking advice from a qualified mental health professional.

:rotfl: :rotfl: don’t worry, Kristina, there is still hope that a large computer with everyone’s name in it will be discovered in the 'bowels of the Vatican".:rotfl: :rotfl:

What debate? So far I only see Catholics that are offering points of substance to consider. When are you going to do the same?

Please listen to me when I say that there is nothing like the shock of finding that everything you believe about the church is false. There is no sting of shame like the one that comes from realizing that you have passed along ignorant falsehoods as facts - that you may have even turned people away from the truth - Jesus Christ and His teachings.

And there is so much pain in this regret
- I didn’t raise my children in the Sacraments which Christ Himself gave us to strengthen and to bless us. I never had the benefits that He wished and willed for us, so I denied them to my children and therefore my grandchildren, too. You cannot even conceive of the sorrow for this failure on my part.

God bless you and keep you and lead you to truth,
I know first hand of what ElizabethJoy speaks. Please take her post to heart, for she speaks the truth.

Well, though aceweaver said that he/she loved debate, they have left the building…

Dude, I’m not going anywhere near the “bowels of the Vatican,” and neither should anyone who isn’t a licensed medical professional.

Could have been the Rapture.
Yeah…that’s why we Catholics are still here talking about it…I guess we’re not “true Christians.”

Just kidding…Anyway, these are very elementary arguments. It seems to be an endless cycle: Someone comes up with objections to the Catholic Church, Catholics rebut them, lather, rinse, repeat, et cetera et cetera ad infinitum.

I advise you, Mr. aceweaver, to research a bit before levying attacks. As Karl Keating notes about many anti-Catholic works in his “Catholicism and Fundamentalism,” most objections to the Church could be cleared up with just a little bit of research into what the Church truly believes, and not what others have said she believes. All 8 of your arguments could be cleared up with a visit to www.catholic.com

Severinus, you are the best…
Modesty prevents a totally candid response.

Sometimes I need to be more charitable, but how long does one have to put up with “arguements” such as the OP’s, that are not even checked for spelling, let alone factual accuracy?

You have yet to debate anything? This is no debate, this is merely correcting your misconceptions of the Church. You have provided no rebuttal to anything with any meaningful or engaging logic, sources, etc. Debate is great, but it takes a minimum of two engaging sides.
I just happen to have opinions that differ from Catholic beliefs
Judging by everything you have provided thus far, I think it is safe to conclude you are in no position to determine whether your beliefs differ from Catholic theology or not. You seem to know very little about Catholic teaching, which is completely fine, but I would suggest seeking a fuller and more accurate understanding of it before building and attacking straw men.

Live,

Welcome to the forum. I see you’re new here: just a friendly suggestion—type out words instead of using abbreviations, and use punctuation and capital letters where called for. It really helps the rest of us understand what you’re trying to say, and also shows that you care enough to express yourself clearly. I don’t understand what you’re trying to say here, or to whom—it’s a bit too confusing.

Again, welcome to the forum.

IOW:

Aceweaver: “The Catholic Church says X, and X is false!”

Catholics: “The Catholic Church does not say X.”

Aceweaver: “Well, but the Catholic Church says X, and X is false!”

– Mark L. Chance.
I’m afraid that this is the way the “debate” will go.

I read the arguments. They seemed extremely simplistic.

Hello, jiml8966,

quote: jiml8966
Concerning point number 8…Indulgences are NOT forgiveness of sins at all. They are works of mercy/prayer that can alleviate the temporal punishment due to sins ALREADY forgiven.
How about Tetzel’s agents?

quote: reen12 from another thread:
"As soon as the penny in the coffer rings,

so another soul from purgatory springs"
Does this mean Martin Luther was right?

Tetzel’s agents were not reflecting RC theology,
accurately…still, it does give one pause.

Just a thought.
