“Are you tired of the commercialism that has ravaged the true meaning of Christmas, Easter, Saint Patrick’s Day, and other ideally sacred days?” -and of Saint Valentine’s day?

If you want to restore some of the holiness that Saint Valentine’s Day should connote, here are eight ways that Catholics can do it…

I wish my husband were still alive so I could send him that for a Valentine this year.

Guess I’ll just have to send it to my Facebook fiends list instead!

That was a good article. I note that while there are three St. Valentines sharing Feb. 14, there are a total of 11 St. Valentines listed on CatholicOnline saints database, although the other 8 of them have different feast days. One was a Pope, another one was a much later martyr in Vietnam.

❤️St. Valentine, pray for us! – ❤️

The fifth “way” was my favorite.

More of a Hallmark Holiday than a Holy Day…not an observed memorial by the Church.

Another good idea would be to send valentines and spend time with your friends this Valentines Day in defiance of a culture that worships romantic love and considers strong platonic friendships as kid stuff.

Am remembering you and your dear husband in my prayers at this time, dear fellow CAFer
❤️:pray:t2:

Thanks. I was going to be spending the day with the heart of St. John Vianney but since he happened to pass close by last week, we had an early date and I’ll be spending the day dealing with a corporal work of mercy instead.

One year when my daughter was in college, she asked her friends on Facebook if they wanted a Valentine to let her know. She had a bunch of requests from single friends, and made them each a Valentine that reflected their personality. It was quite a nice gesture. Sadly, she herself only received a couple of Valentines from her friends in return.

I’m making one for a friend. Sadly, it’ll be more of a birthday card because I won’t be able to finish until later this month. It is something that requires a lot of planning since I’m drawing it.

If I were in college now, I would secretly go down the hall in my dorm, taping a valentine on each door.

It was meh. They just glued a heart and a Hershey kiss to people’s doors. People here are generally too busy to be friendly.

That’s the reality of our campus. We are so busy that social events often get canceled and small clubs never thrive. People generally don’t come here to make best friends for life.
