80s and 90s "Hair" Bands

I’ve always been a big fan of Slade. I love Noddy Holder’s voice, although he was considered “too British” for American tastes.
 
I’m back from the bar. Since the jukebox was downloadable, I played: Warrant, Poison, Faster Pussycat, W.A.S.P., Motley Crue, Skid Row, Junkyard, Cinderella, Guns N’ Roses, L.A. Guns, and Tesla. I also threw in some Slade since they inspired many of those bands plus Quiet Riot (whom I did not play–Slade were better). 😃
 
Odd topic for a Catholic forum I would say.

As sinful as their lyrics and image they portrayed tended to be, I must say they had some pretty catchy songs for their day. Although I wouldn’t consider them to be true Heavy Metal (such as Iron Maiden or Metallica). But as I look back on them now I for the most part just laugh, with a fair bit of nostolgia for those early years of my life.

And I should admit I was a fan of those bands at one time.:o

In my view Judas Priest and Iron Maiden were straight up Heavy Metal, and not as much the more pop and synth oriented “Hair Metal”.

I like Spinal Tap… metal in general just isn’t my thing though. I like a few bands – GWAR, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, the County Medical Examiners (goregrind band… all the members are actually CMEs! And the bassist is in his 60s!), and I have a slightly-grudging appreciation for Edguy, one all you hair and power metal fans should definitely check out.

But mostly… you guys rock on, I’ll be… over there… 😛

I saw GWAR in concert for free 2 years ago. 😃 I got tickets for some local band but the show was rescheduled. The club let me and my friends (who also had tickets) to see the replacement act, which was GWAR, instead. We had a great time. I originally knew who GWAR was because they were in a bad movie called “Mystery Date” that I actually went to on a bad date years before.

I’ve seen Judas Priest and Black Sabbath in concert too. I saw Sabbath at Oz Fest.

GWAR’s “Oderus Urungus” is a guy by the name of Dave Brockie. Not sure who the real names of the others are off hand though. I’ve taken the band only half seriously though, lol.

But Black Sabbath I have taken totally seriously, as they pretty much invented the whole Metal thing at the start. And they were certainly no hair band…

They were fun in concert. I didn’t take them seriously either.

No, I never got around to trying out any of their new stuff. (Well, I guess my definition of “new” includes stuff from 10-15 years ago :o ). I love the two Southgang albums, though. Are they similar? I got the impression that they were a bit different in style, so I never tried them out.

I saw someone mention Gorky Park, too! I loved them! I still like their version of “My Generation” much better than The Who’s. 🙂

Butch Walker was the lead guitarist for Southgang, Jayce was the bassist, and Mitch aka “Slug” was the drummer. They formed the Marvelous 3 and had only one big hit with “Freak of the Week” and made 3 albums. They split and Butch Walker released several solo albums, but he helps to produce songs for Avril, Bowling for Soup, Tommy Lee, SR-71, etc. He does a lot of producing and has worked with Nikki Sixx a lot.

He/They play rock and roll music that is really “fun” and were amazingly entertaining in concert, very nice and humble in person as well.
 
Another thread that I am on just had a post and they mentioned the “Final countdown, doo dee doo doo, doo doo doo doo doo…”

Do you “sing” they keyboard part everytime you hear those two words “final” and “countdown” put together?

Has anyone seen the TV show “The Singing Bee”? They call the final challenge in the game “The Final Countdown” and they play the keyboard part when they announce it. That sound always makes me happy! 😃

I hate it, they singing it always does it with “extra cheese”, which, of course, it probably deserves. Still, it drives me crazy.
