9/11 Mailing from Adventists -- National?

Today I got a glossy magazine at my mailing address. Its cover has a New York skyline with two “tablets” with the Commandments in the place where the World Trade Center had been. (The Commandments are rendered in the Protestant numbering.)

Inside are a series of articles presenting arguments for the Saturday Sabbath, and condemning “Roman” changes leading to Sunday worship.

If you go to the small print in the masthead, you will read that the information in the magazine is taken from the writings of Ellen White, who founded the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

I was 1) wondering if this were a local or a national mailing; 2) wanting to inform the apologists to expect questions about Sunday worship; 3) feeling annoyed that the SDA would imply through a mass mailing that failing to keep the Sabbath as they define it may have led to the 9/11 attacks.

Anyone else seen this? Any thoughts?

I have not seen it but based on what you describe, it sounds tacky and insensitive. Their arguments are easily refuted though.

I have never seen a vomiting icon before! But in this case, it is very appropriate!

This doesn’t surprise me in the least – I live in big Adventist country, and I know how they operate. It’s probably a local mailing of a brochure which they can order from their central supplier, inviting you to attend a “Revelation Seminar” at one of the area SDA churches. Those brochures are usually dramatic and sensationalistic, and you have to read the fine print to see that it is from the SDAs. Many of the Protestant fundamentalist groups consider the 9/11 attacks to be a judgment from God for our depraved modern lifestyle; it’s just that the SDAs add to that the failure to keep the Old Testament Sabbath.
