Good morning/evening all;🙂

I was hoping someone could clarify the bolded phrases below…and just what exactly Jesus was speaking of here…why, when He is a shepherd to the poor, would He speak of those who have much, will be given more? Was He speaking of responsibilities? Was He in actuality saying…'If you are trusted with much, much will be ‘expected.’ ? Your help is appreciated. Just want to make sure I get this.
Gospel
Lk 8:16-18

Jesus said to the crowd:
“No one who lights a lamp conceals it with a vessel
or sets it under a bed;
rather, he places it on a lampstand
so that those who enter may see the light.
For there is nothing hidden that will not become visible,
and nothing secret that will not be known and come to light.
Take care, then, how you hear.
**To anyone who has, more will be given,
and from the one who has not,
even what he seems to have will be taken away.” **

What is possessed, if not the light (remember: context)? I assert that it’s the Light of Christ. To him who has the Light of Christ within him, more will be given. To him who does not have the Light of Christ, even what he seems to have (worldly wisdom, wealth, fame, etc.) will ultimately be taken away.

That’s my initial interpretation, anyway.

God Bless,
RyanL

Oh, that is an interesting insight, I had not yet thought of. Thank you.🙂

Jesus is talking about the ‘light’ of Faith. I think the key is in the preceeding line "Take care, then, how you hear."

He is telling them that the Truth they have received must be exposed to/shared with others, not kept locked away secretly in out hearts.

If we share our Faith, the Good News of the Gospels, with others our Faith will grow stronger. If we hide it away, OTOH, it will die.

I think I got that…but I wonder why I struggled with this reading. Thank you for your help everyone…this reading is 10x more meaningful now…
🙂

If we share the truth of our faith with others, then God will reveal even deeper truths to us, but if we do not share the truth of our faith with others, then God will deprive us of the knowledge we think we have. We must “use it or lose it”.
