96% of married catholic couples use birth control.
i’ve seen this amount in many articles:

i am by no means asking the church to change her teachings, but are all of these couples going to hell if they die before stopping?

just curious because that is **a lot ** of people

Luke 13:22-28:
He went on his way through towns and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem. And some one said to him, “Lord, will those who are saved be few?” And he said to them, "Strive to enter by the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able. When once the householder has risen up and shut the door, you will begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, open to us.' He will answer you, I do not know where you come from.’ Then you will begin to say, We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.' But he will say, I tell you, I do not know where you come from; depart from me, all you workers of iniquity!’ There you will weep and gnash your teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God and you yourselves thrust out.
There’s just no other way to put it. The Church takes her teaching on birth control very seriously. We can only entrust these souls to the mercy of God and pray for their salvation.

God bless.

well then the church must recognize this problem much more than they are now. They should remind people everyday in mass. just a little side note kind of thing. This is a really serious matter.

Well, it is objectively evil. Our Lord did say that broad and paved is the path to death, and many will take that road.
I think these numbers are sad.

Oh, but that’s far too taboo to mention in church! 🤷

I’ve read 97%-98% of married couples whose wife is capable of conceiving.

There’s a big difference, but it’s still a big number.

For a sin to be mortal it has to meet 3 criteria
  1. Grave Matter
  2. Full Knowledge
  3. Deliberate consent
If any of these is lacking, then the sin is venial at most. I think there are many people who don’t fully know or understand the Church’s teaching on birth control.

 Now that is something to get THAT many people to answer THAT question. Can’t believe everything you read, I don’t know about you but they didn’t even ask the question to me. Don’t even know anyone is all 3 of the churches in our area that where of course to be honest I have not ask EVERY single one.OPPS

You think that’s scary?

Statistically speaking, 1 in 2 marriages fail…

Ironically Yours, Blade and Blood

Although, I"ve seen numbers saying that less then 2% of marriages between virgins fail.

So obvioulsy pre-martial sex leads to a faulty foundation for 50% of marriages.

As for BC, my mum told me its a matter between the consciences of the husband and wife. By that logic they can justify abortion!!

My bro has asked my advice about whether his soul is hell bound for him and his wife using BC. I don’t know why they would ask me given I’m not married. But I told him upfront the point of BC is to derail the purpose of the act of love making, it takes it from being a God given gift of togetherness and a part in the creation of life to a selfish, secular act of porn.

God is pretty clear on his opinions of BC. The Church is also pretty clear. Those who ignore these messages, well, they will have to answer to the Almighty, all I can hope for for my bro is his repetance. I"m hoping my cousin and his wife’s example of not using BC and the wonderful logic they use to support their practice will rub off on my bro. But my sis in law is a rather “liberal” catholic… she even voted for Obama (she’s got American citizenship).

Wow! How did whoever come up with this number have the time and money to travel the world to ask all 1.2 billion Catholics. Nobody asked me or my wife!!

Uh, some infertility is male related as well.

Like Jennifer J said, certain conditions have to be met for it to constitute a mortal sin. Not to discount those who know and choose not to follow Church teaching, but I believe MANY of whatever the percentage is, truly do not understand the teaching which leads to their opposing actions. This is why proper education of children is so important.

Us either.

I also wonder if they counted my sister. She claims to be Catholic. But she hasn’t been to church in YEARS. Only one of her 4 children have been baptized. She also uses birth control pills.

When stats like this come out, I wonder how they do them. Do they go to Catholic churches and ask? Or do they call random people and ask? I know a lot of people that claim to be Catholic, but never go to Mass, haven’t been to Confession in decades and wouldn’t know Catholic teaching if it was right in front of them.

Well, I have it on good authority that about 96% of statistics are made up, too.

People like to beat up the big guys whenever they can. So us Catholics get to hear all sorts of survey information like this to 1) dissuade us from the Truth, and 2) try to convince the world how “out of date” the teaching might be.

I’ve heard more reliable studies point to 70ish percent of married, ovulating Catholic women practice some form of BC. Now NFP can be used for BC. And many people call themselves Catholic eventhough they haven’t been to confession or communion for years. What constitutes a “practicing Catholics” is not what we generally see in terms of these surveys.

I generally dismiss these surveys out of hand. I see its 96% of ALL sexually active women. Not just the married ones. And it doesn’t specifically say America, either.

However, the CC has done a poor job on teaching some of the subjects. I think the increasing popularity of TOB will go a long way in teaching the value of NFP over ABC to couples. It may be many decades before the convenience of ABC is surpassed with the value of NFP. We appear to be bafoons (?) but I’ve become a believer in the value of NFP the hard way. Like so many others.

Uh, some infertility is male related as well.Right. I didn’t intend to seem so . . . . . .stupid.
I was addressing the contraceptive aspect of the op.

You are wise.
