Dear Brothers and Sisters,
St Louis De Montfort’s treatise on “True Devotion” is a beautiful work done by the power of the Holy Spirit, and it engenders even more “beautiful work” known only to God in souls to be revealed on judgment day. Servant of God Frank Duff and St. John Paul II, wrote that reading this small treatise was a “turning point” in their lives. It continues to be a blessing to me, and I hope to many of you on CAF.
Yesterday I was reading Frank Duff’s words, written after he had consecrated himself to Jesus through Mary and was organizing the Legion of Mary to help others do “beautiful work”. He wrote this in the Legion of Mary Handbook:
Of course, the Legion is not the “only” beautiful work, in the Church! Bl. Mother Teresa of Calcutta and St. John Paul II, each made their personal Consecration according to St. Louis de Montfort’s “True Devotion” and both of them set out to do beautiful things for God and attained great holiness, but more lay persons need to strive for holiness, it seems to me, to build up the Body of Christ in love.
There are still some in the Church who feel that Clergy and Religious are the “real saints”, but that has never been the mind and heart of the Church. WE are ALL called to holiness and called to continue the mission of Jesus, as Mary did. The whole Church exists to evangelize. Mary was a lay person, not a priest, but a wife who was married and gave birth to a child. Mary like her Son was a “contemplative in action”. Jesus went about doing good, and so did she. Every man, woman and child can do a “beautiful work” for God.
My point in this thread is for each of us, to ask the Holy Spirit to guide us in doing something “beautiful for God” today and every day. If anyone would like to read more about Servant of God Frank Duff or the Legion of Mary see HERE
Hopefully, Servant of God Frank Duff, as well as the other lay persons in the Legion: Venerable Edel Quinn and Servant of God Alphonsus Lamb whose causes for canonization have all been introduced in Rome will be “proclaimed” saints. St. John Paul II recognized the need for more lay persons to be seen as examples of holiness in the modern world. As Mother Angelica often said…“Don’t miss the opportunity!”

The Legion began when the Servant of God met with a group of parishioners who had also made their Consecration to Jesus through Mary. They prayed together with their parish priest to the Holy Spirit for light on how to LIVE their Consecration, which is a perfect renewal of Baptism.… the Legion aims not at the doing of any particular work, but has as a primary object the making of its members holy…the Legion seeks to develop that holiness in a specific way, to give it the character of apostleship, to heat it white hot so that it must diffuse itself… Underlining is mine for emphasis
