I was reading a passage from the bible online recently, it was about the betrayal of Jesus by judas and his arrest. I was very interested and decided to buy a bible to read more.

The Bible seems abbreviated and disjointed compared to the site, it is the New Revised Standard Edition.

I’m sorry but I don’t have the link to the site, but I remember the passage described the event in great detail. It described the dress of the guards and their facial hair, the passage of Jesus whilst under arrest, him falling off a bridge etc

My question is about Bible versions, is there a full version of the bible or is the website someones version with the gaps filled in?

I’m sorry if I sound vague.

I don’t think there is any part of the Bible mentioned Jesus falling off a bridge. I would stay away from the site. I don’t think there is any more-detailed version of the Bible.

I am glad that you are interested in reading the Bible. You could also find out if your parish has a Bible study group for you to join.

I think you’re talking about the passion of Christ website. These detailed scenes are taken from Catherine Anne Emmerich’s mystical account(her visions).

Just as the movie The Passion of the Christ relied heavily on her account. In fact in the movie there is a scene where Jesus falls over a bridge.

This is extra-biblical. It’s not authoritive or inspired as is scripture.

The standard translation for the U.S. Church is the New American Bible, which comes in some variations including a study version, (with more footnotes and explanations).

When you read scripture first ask God through His Holy Spirit to help you to understand it, and watch/listen for the whole message of scripture, without getting hung-up on the individual words, phrasing etc. The whole Bible is a long love letter from our God, pointing to His Son Jesus, who became man and redeemed us by His death and especially by His resurrection from and victory over death.

May the peace of Jesus always be with you.

Yeah this does sound like something out of The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ by Blessed Anne Catherine Emerich. It is a much more detailed account of Christ’s passion but it is merely private revelation and not required to be believed by Catholics.

That explains it, thank you everybody for your helpful answers.
That wasn’t a silly question! And others stated it well: what you had read “filled in the gaps” in Scripture, and is not part of authentic teaching, although it represents a pious imagination.

Often when meditating on Scripture, we place ourselves in the situation described in the Bible, and we try to imagine what is going on there: Is it cold or warm? Are there a lot of people there? What are the sounds we hear? The smells?

It helps us experience the passage with our senses . . . It is a way of making it personal.
