As originally drafted, House Bill 2549 would have repealed the sales tax exemption enjoyed by all non-profits, as well as a host of other organizations. However, the bill was amended in committee so that only religious non-profits, including churches, would lose their tax exemption.
Kansas, like many states, is facing a large budget shortfall, despite major cuts in spending (16% of the total budget), but it is still having trouble finding the revenue it needs.
Other tax proposals, including tobacco and liquor tax hikes and a general sales tax increase, have been suggested but so far have failed to pass the Legislature. Many lawmakers contend the state should cut spending before raising taxes.

Well, poor us. Maybe it’s because they have one of the largest PP facilities for abortion here that did all kinds of them, plus other contraceptive procedures, I’m sure.

They better not vote “yes” on picking on religious institutions or the "yes"ers are going to get you know what–hammered the next time they’re up for reelection.
