If there was such a thing, I would pray for a good leader for the United States. We need a good spiritual leader who will follow our Pope.

AMEN! I am praying the Rosary daily with this intention.

I’m of the opinion that the Church should stay out of politics unless its issues of life vs. death (i.e. abortion or war).

Pope John Paul II agreed, and that’s why he demanded that all priests leave any state positions they have.

So if by “Bishop Tea Party”, you mean a group of Bishops who protest Obamacare, govt. regulation, the deficit, etc., then that should never happen.

But if you mean a group of Bishops who advocate returning to Traditional, 100% Roman Catholic teachings, then I agree with you fully.

Ah…now there’s a taught.

(I"ve never had much reason myself to worry about this, as our Bishop is great)

But the individual to lead a tea party would have to be a Bishop, correct? Otherwise, those involved or leading would be considered disobedient…correct?

Really, something to think about.

FWIW, I took it as meaning the latter. The election of a Bishop who is willing to yield to Rome and Tradition.

Yes, I did mean a return to 100% Catholic teaching. From what I have read, our next president did not sound like the best choice. There are great bishops out there. I know it is not politics but there is an election. I pray that in a way there is a grass root swell among our bishops to elect one.

Your opinion differs from the view of the Church herself. The Church and her Bishops are expected to be a voice on many issues of faith and morals. While life issues are paramount, other issues such as social justice, education, family life, etc are also ones where the guidance of the Bishops is important. Many of these issue are political ones. This is the job of shepherds.

Well yeah, of course the Church should voice its opinion on those matters as well. But I’m talking about political things such as deficit and economic policies. The Church is not infallible in politics as history has shown us, so I’d really hesitate to follow a bishop who says all Catholics should vote against so-and-so because his/her economic policies are bad and that’s it.

Well, the Bishops conferences aren’t infallible anyway. In the US no Bishop could tell Catholics who to vote for or against. The Bishops can only speak out about issues and policies. It’s up to the voter to determine how the Catholic position on those issues applies to different candidates. 🙂 But there is nothing wrong with a Bishop saying that a particular economic policy is bad or good.
