Usually one is holding a bulletin that has the service and responses outlined, as well as references to the prayer book. So one has the bulletin, the prayer book, the hymnal and sometimes ANOTHER song book to deal with…while sitting, kneeling and standing.
😃 Yes I have the same trouble in Catholic Church!

I hear you! I suppose the alternative is having everything projected up on a screen - Episcopalians don’t do that though, I hope.

Somewhere around here I have an old book called Halo Again, More Fun with the Episcocats. The (almost) original LOL cats with an Episcopalian twist. 😉

Another benefit of #2 - not electrocuting oneself. When I was baptized by immersion, I was supposed to say a few words into the microphone while standing in the tank before being dunked. I automatically started to grab the microphone - the minister stopped me in time!

This is why it’s best to come every Sunday. You learn the songs, learn the BCP, and learn how to put down the relevant inserts (music for congregational chanting, prayer list with names to repeat) with grace. 😃

I was very proud of myself as a new Episcopalian when I’d see the odd priest wearing vestments on TV or movies and know the season by his colors – but then I realized practically every time they were on screen, they would wear green. It’s the safest color, I suppose – takes up most of the year between Christmas and Easter. .
