Why on earth would a manger scene, or Jesus preaching on a hillside repulse me? These are beautiful images! But once the crucifixion is over, there is no NEED to depict Him on the Cross any longer! Christians all know that Jesus died a horrible death on the Cross, for us and was beaten so severely that His face was unrecognizable! So why is this image attractive to you? I f your child was brutally beaten, raped and or tortured, would you want a video that you could watch of it repeatedly? If your preference is to depict Him on the Cross, so be it, but you see, I am in the camp of those who can see an empty Cross, and still know how precious His sacrifice was, and how deep His love IS for us! I am rehearsing for an Easter play, where my character touches the empty Cross, and last night, I was moved to tears, by the power I felt in that moment! Free will, my brother, gives us the option to choose crucifix, or no crucifix! I choose no crucifix; not right, just content in the knowledge that He is not on the Cross, but seated next to God in Heaven!👍
wow…what a stretch…you have compared a Crucifix with a video of my child being beaten, raped and tortured.you dont have a clue why we Catholics reverence the Crucifix and look upon it with sad filled hearts and yet we see the Victory HE WON FOR ALL MANKIND!!!the love he had for everyone of us can be seen by the image of him on the cross.we dont complain about others who wish to look upon an empty cross and feel the same thing as we do.if you ever went into a Catholic church you would see 3 kinds of crosses displayed.the Crucifix,an empty cross and a Risen Christ in front of the cross.

Is it over? Are you saying that Jesus is no longer God? Does He not have a glorified body? And why do we put out creches at Christmas? Crucifixion is indeed part of the salvation process, as is Resurrection! So, He had to be crucified, buried, spend three days in the bowels of the earth, and be risen from the dead, to proclaim victory over the grave! But I respect your choice to remember His tragic death by means of a crucifix! Can you respect my choice not to?
you say you respect our choice to remember by means of a Crucifix, but before you said you were repulsed by it…and when did anyone say to you you have to have Jesus hanging on a cross to be right.you have set up a straw man argument my brother.

Why do you NEED to wear such a necklace?
I dont need to,I WANT to…since you asked, I will tell you why…the Crucifix I wear because it is a constant reminder of the lengths my Savior went so that I might spend etenity with him in heaven, and I bought it on a cruise with my wife as we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary…the cross was given to me on a retreat I worked a few years ago and the nails it is made of reminds me that because of my sins now they were driven into his hands almost 2000 years ago…thats why I choose to wear them…thank you for asking

Absolutely not - IF you consider yourself a Christian.

There is NO salvation without the Crucifixion and death of Jesus. It always amazes me how many Protestants (not all) do their best to forget what Jesus did for them.
Paul said that we preach Christ CRUCIFIED (1 Cor. 1:23).

About the only thing missing from this post is charity!😉 So you want to be respected for wearing a crucifix; but not respect those whochoose no to??? In case you forgot, Paul also taught RESURRECTION!!!

P.S, I really hope that your ignorance does not cause you to believe that us “other” Christians do not know that without the crucifixion, there is no salvation. But, you leave out the Resurrection; interesting, since we celebrate it in four days! Must be a catholic thing:p

I started reading the first few posts and it seemed that it was supposed to be on the topic of “A case for once saved always saved” then I look at the last few posts and it looked like it turned into a Catholic vs Protestant debate.

“A Case for Once Saved Always Saved” is almost a past tense topic. This is essentially John Calvins theology that even a majority of Protestantism has now rejected; even most Protestants rightly recognize Calvinism as an obsolete and dying religion.

Most Protestant Bible Scholars, including world wide respected Protestant Bible Scholars have already successfully refuted and successfully debunked Calvinism as being actually Anti-Biblical theology that Calvinists have mistaken for Biblical through the Calvinist misinterpreting the Sacred Text.

Even today, there are approximately only 20% of calvinist and calvin based ministries combined as compared how many there were a decade ago.

Conclusion: Don’t really need to argue or debate anymore because the total collapse of calvinism is right around the corner. Calvinists can make all the noise they want to; won’t do them any good because they are still on a sinking ship. All the run about scream and shout will not stop that ship from sinking…

What biblical scholarship is replacing Calvinism, to what truth have the 80% turned ?

Jesus died on the cross so that we can be saved.

In doing this he opened the gates of heaven for us - we now have access to Eternal Life. This is salvation.

However, just as when a murderer has been found guilty he must serve his sentence, we too must make reparation for our sins. We have to do penance to prove that we are serious in our intention never to repeat our sins. We are told "Be Holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy (Lev 19:2).

We may fall again and repeat that sin and will be forgiven if we repent. The fact of the matter is we must do reparation for our sins.

So what is the problem here? Why do Protestants believ**e that all we have to do is repent and that’s it! Some even believe that we don’t have to repent because Jesus earned our salvation for us on the cross!!!

This does not make sense. We have to be contrite and accept Jesus’ gift of salvation by being truly repentant.

The Church is going through a crisis right now with some priests who have committed the most terrible sin - they betrayed God, their victims, the faithfull and themselves. Some have said they are sorry and so have the bishops but people say that this is not enough! Of course it is not enough. They must be punished and the Bishops have to take strict measures to ensure that this does not happen again.

Sinners must serve time for their sins!
God have mercy on us sinners

Huh?? Paul taught the Crucufixion AND the Resurrection.

You - and many other confused Protestants would like to forget what he had to go through in order for the Resurrection to have happened.
NOT Paul. That’s why he said we preach Christ CRUCIFIED.

In post 1164, you said the following:

If I remember correctly, He said ,“It is finished!” I take this to mean that His work in the world, as a human, at least was done!
Apparently, you don’t hold this event in as high regard as the
Resurrection. Without it - you’re eternally lost, my angry anti-Catholic friend. 👍

P.S, I really hope that your ignorance does not cause you to believe that us “other” Christians do not know that without the crucifixion, there is no salvation. But, you leave out the Resurrection; interesting, since we celebrate it in four days! Must be a catholic thing:p
Here is a little Christianity-101:
The Crucufixion REDEEMED us. This is how we are saved.
The Resurrection was proof of our everlasting life.

Belief that the Crucifixion redeemed us and opened the door to salvation? You’re right - must be a Catholic thing . . .

I am fully aware what Jesus had to endure on the Cross and I am fully thankful that I can rejoice in my salvation, now at Easter and all year long, and know that it will be a glorious day when I meet Jesus face to face. Unconditional love and too bad we do not show that extreme love to everyone even if we do not agree.

I know it’s usually a waste of time trying to get you to accept Catholic teaching - even though you claim to teach RCIA, but what the heck . . .

You can rejoice in your Redemption - which is what Jesus did on the cross. He PAID for us (redeemed). We can only be saved after we cooperate with the this redemptive grace - after a lifetime of enduring faith.

You can rejoice in your salvation after you die - when you are actually saved.

I am and will continue to rejoice in my salvation forever. I am glad Jesus lifted me and ppraise His Holy name.

Dear brb3:

Quoting you: What biblical scholarship is replacing Calvinism, to what truth have the 80% turned ?

First of all, Calvinism is not being replaced. Calvinism was always just an extra odd-ball in the group to begin with. Calvinism was not taught prior to John Calvins time (the Divinely Inspired Apostles NEVER taught Calvins theology on TULIPand they could not since Calvinism is Anti-Biblical (contradicts the Word of God) as well as TULIP being a self-contradictory doctrine)

To answer your question about Biblical scholarship, 80% of Protestantism has enjoyed an impressive progress and development in “coming into all truths” by improving in the quality of their Biblical exegesis. That 80% are the ones that discovered that John Calvins methods of interpreting Scripture was not very accurate (specifically the quality of John Calvins accuracy was about <0.01 % accurate); although in Calvins defense I will say that he did get a couple of things right in regards to baptism.

Today, people who are calvinists are people who still live in ignorance of the Sacred Text because they still have not learned how to interpret the bible correctly; they suffer from Bible illiteracy even though they are literate when it comes to reading modern day literature.

If your interested, I would be glad to teach you how to interpret the Bible correctly.

Peace in Christ,

Well, greetings, my equally ANGRY anti-Protestant brother! I thought you were smarter than a fifth grader, but you continue making inane statements, that you can’t back up historically or scripturally! Where does it state(other than someone’s opinion) that Christians should wear a crucifix? Are you reallyso stupid, that you believe that we don’t appreciate the crucifixion; solely because we choose not to wear a crucifix? For many of us, Jesus died ONCE, and once is enough! Because of His sacrifice, we only have to die once! And I bet one can preach crucifixion, without a crucifix;) I can look at an empty Cross, and feel the love, and the pain! This is all about a difference of opinion, and free will. You can’t bully someone into wearing a crucifix, because you believe that it’s right:p

Whoa there, my protestant brother. (Remember… more flies with honey than vinegar).

You’re still stuck in Christianity 101? C’mon man, time to graduate, and move on!
