I just joined the forum and this is my first post.

Based on high praise from Patrick Madrid, Jimmy Akin, Tim Staples and others I traced down and purchased a copy of this resource. I bought a nice clean copy printed in 1960. Holy smoke! This is an unbelievable compilation of so much information it would take a lifetime to explore.

On a sad note, this rascal cost me $150.00 and that’s a lot of cabbage!

Well, I’ve had this book SINCE 1960. Most of the intros are very good, and I would say they are the best part of the book. They deserve to be studied carefully. As for the running commentaries, mostly they are just a paraphrase of the biblical text and don’t help much. Don’t read the bible and the commentary at the same time. Read a chapter, absorb it, then see if the commentary adds anything interesting.

I am a hapless buyer of many things pre-felt banner. To me it’s worth it. I can’t speak for you and it’s a big investment. It simply came so highly regarded that I was helpless.
 
I’m feeling very smug that I found this for £35 in a second-hand bookshop in Stratford-upon-Avon, UK.
 
I am looking for something of the same quality as “A Catholic Commentary on Holy Scripture”. Is there anything?
 
Thanks. Is there a one, two, or three volume commentary available?
 
  1. Does this have both the Old and New Testaments?
  2. Which translation of the Bible does it use?
  3. One of things that interests me are the “difficult” aspects of the Bible - like if the chapters in Genesis are historical, somewhat historical, to what extent, etc. Does this commentary have commentary like this?
 
It seems to me that no scripture commentary will be complete unless we had one from each of the four evangelists and each author of the New Testament letters.

I apologize. I did not see the rule that said that old threads should not be replied to. I confess I did not look at the date when I searched for the topic. Also I did not see the rule that you are referring to here:

Is there another thread rule that I am unaware of? If so, could you point it out? Thanks, and again I apologize for the offense!
