A Catholic high school using Han Kung's books?

My son is in Catholic High School. He is currently taking a Church History class. The text that is being used is “The Catholic Church - A Short History” by Hans Kung. It’s a required course to graduate. What’s your opinion on Hans Kung and is there an alternative book I can direct my son to read?
 
Dear D,

Hans Kung lost his license to teach in Catholic universities in 1979. His writings evidence a bias against the Magisterium and do not reflect sound Catholic teaching.

I would recommend “A Short History of the Catholic Church by Jose Orlandis. We sell it here at Catholic Answers and know it to be sound.

The enforced reading of such a theologian’s work to high school students should give you concern about sending your son to such a school.
