Wow! That is wonderful! I can only hope that more bishops will make the GIRM the normative way to celebrate mass.

It is funny you mention this now. I noticed this Decree of Promulgation the week before Easter on the diocese website. I live in the jurisdiction of this diocese, but travel to a church in the neighboring diocese because of the horrendous abuses at my “home” parish. When I saw that Bishop Jugis took these steps to correct things, I snuck back into my old parish after Holy Thursday to see if they had done anything to comply – and they hadn’t. Still no crucifix near the altar.
Last night, I printed off the entire decree, highlighted the parts this parish needs to pay attention to, and wrote a firm but charitable letter to the priest, offering suggestions how the parish might bring itself in line with the norms and offering to help. I left him my home phone number, my cell number, my address, and a request for a reply to let me know what plans were in the works to get the parish straight on these norms. I added that if I did not receive a reply, I would assume there are no plans to implement the changes decreed by the bishop, and that my next step would be to write him instead. I mailed it this afternoon following a prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary and to Saint Michael. I hope it will do some good.

What a great model for other Bishops to follow!

The closest things to this we in Detroit get are piecemeal instructions handed down through (some of) our priests and a liturgucal newsletter on the website that is not only difficult to find but never up-to-date. We are blessed to have a Catholic television station where the Bishop provides such direction, but not everybody gets the channel.
