Hi!
Our artist wants to change one of the most important buildings in Poznan (one of the biggest cities in Poland)into a minaret. It would become the “sign” of this city. Can you imagine a Muslim in an Arabic country building a church? What do you think about this issue? and what would you do? Is it only my opinion that doing such a thing in a catholic country is something wrong?

Would the artist be Joanna Rajkowska? I have tried to find information about this project, but have had no luck. Do you happen to have any links?

Exactly, it’s Joanna Rajkowska. I can find information only in Polish, couldn’t find anything in English:
miasta.gazeta.pl/poznan/1,36037,6715169,Minaret_w_Poznaniu_dopiero_na_jesieni.html
In general, it’s written that the minaret is part of the project “Malta”. In the beggining it was supposed to be installed just temporary and now the comitee of the festival says the minaret will appear at the end of this festival. And …it will end up as a part of Poznan’s architecture. The building was chose because it is situated in the downtown and would be seen from a sightseeing point.

Rather odd, considering her Christian ancestors gave their lives to prevent the building of minarets in Europe.

Thank you for the news link. I used an online translator (which doesn’t do well, I am afraid) and it appears the site was selected because it was visible between the city’s cathedral and old synagogue. I guess the artist wants to spur discussion about the coexistence of Christianity, Judaism and Islam.
