Hi CAF,

This is more of a rant post, but I am completely OUTRAGED at something I saw on Twitter just now. I saw looking at one of the altar boy’s from my parish twitter page while looking for a mutual friend, and I saw that the altar boy posted a picture of a hamburger with the host laid all over it as it is were some kind of condiment!:mad: I don’t care if they were consecrated or not, that is mockery, and it is horrible! After I stopped shaking, I noticed he had several other picture such as his friend hanging off the statue of Jesus, and of his hand with Ashes on his fingers and cursing in the description box. When did this become okay? Have you seen a complete lack of reverence for the faith recently? Thank you.

I think this is serious enough to be shown to your parish priest.

Did this boy post the picture with the intention to be irreverent, or as part of something showing how others have been irreverent? I recall a news item about a restaurant that made a burger with a (presumably unconsecrated) host on it, and how it scandalized a lot of folks; most of these articles included a photo with it. Perhaps this is the case here?

I have heard of restaurant George is referring to where, in very poor taste, they are serving a burger with an unconsecrated Eucharist “garnish”. If that isn’t the situation being described I would save the pictures on my hard drive so they can’t be deleted before the priest is shown.

An altar boy did this? 😦 Personally, if I knew the kid (and was comfortable with talking with him), I would respond to his twitter post and question him a little bit about it first. Of course, I’d save all the pics first, in case somebody tries to delete them.

But reporting it to the parish priest would seem like a good thing to do in either case.

I have heard reports of hosts being stolen and used for irreverent purposes before (Satanic masses, etc.); unfortunately, things like this happen.

I agree with some of the other posters that we ought to be careful about making a rash judgement here, but the priest ought to know that is happening, since as you point out, this is a very serious offense, even if done in good faith.

Miserere nobis, Domine, ob magna peccata nostra,
Benedicat Deus,
Latinitas

I will save the pictures ASAP.
I have not seen either of the boys in the photos for some time now – they don’t seem to serve anymore.
Lastly, I fairly certain it was not that restaurant as there burger was from McDonalds.
Thank you all for your responses! The pictures are actually from a while ago, but I just come across them today.

so sad.
as a convert, it truly saddens me when I hear/read/see such things occurring… hopefully these were the unconsecrated hosts taken from the sacrasty and not stolen from the Tabernacle… and we wonder why we lock the doors on it!

I agree with the other posters:
By all means, these pictures need to be shown to the Pastor so that these young men and their parents can be involved - this is scandle and they are old enough to understand the grave nature of their actions - I’m embarassed for them… perhaps a prayer to St. Michael for they have certainly been lead astray!

I can understand being upset. Especially if the picture of the host/burger was something they did themselves rather than a re-post of that one restaurant. That is very distressing.

If the pictures are from a while ago and the boys no longer serve at Mass, then I’m not sure showing them to your priest is likely to accomplish anything.

It could cause the priest to be a little more careful about how things are handled in the Church, though; Like locking the sacristy doors and tabernacle (hopefully, those are being done already), making sure people consume the host if they received in the hand (I actually know of a priest that mentioned before that he’s going to watch them if they receive in the hand to make sure they put it in their mouth, lol), etc.

Good point.

Be careful–it seems that people are jumping to conclusions about this, going so far as to insinuate that desecration of the Eucharist (or at the very least some sort of theft) has gone on. Talk to the boy, ask him what his intention for posting that was–it may well have been that he was merely letting people know about someone else’s disrespect, sharing a news article. It isn’t necessarily a sign of ill will on his part. If he meant the picture to be disrespectful (or if it was indeed something he did), then address your concern to the priest. But there’s no need to go in guns blazing and making accusations unless they can be backed up–and those of us who do not know about this firsthand can really make no accusations of the sort.

I know that the host that was on the burger was the same host that we use at my parish (the design is the same). Second, along with the picture, they said, “Eating burgers name of my parish style!” And I looked at the restaurant that a couple of you referred to, and it seems that in that restaurant they were using 1 host as a garish whereas in this photo there were 12-15 of them on the burger.

What you saw on twitter is a sacriligious.

Not given the boys their age, it is morally wrong and being an altar boy, complicates it more.

I would approach your pastor and expound to him what was transpering. I am sur the pastor knows how to handle the situation.

Again, if this altar boy is of age of reason, he should know better.

I suggest that he go to confession and tell the priest the disgrace he purported.

A good strong pastor will open-up his mind.

Thank you for pointing this out to me.

God bless him and bless us for what we go through.

The only thing I would add to this, is that we should pray for these young adults and forgive them ourselves as we’ve been taught to do in the “Our Father.”
