While pondering events with the LCMS Pastor in Newtown getting in trouble for the interfaith prayer, I realized that although I’ve been an official member of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, I have no idea about many Lutheran beliefs. I was never received proper Catechesis.( I was “fast tracked in”) Oh, I’ve thumbed through Luther’s Small Catechism, and the Ausburg Confession (not light reading, mind you) Reading posts from other Lutherans on this forum has made me realize we have more in common with our Catholic brothers and sisters than I had thought. So, I’ve realized many of my posts are not representative of the Lutheran thought. (More Baptist than anything) So, for my uncharitableness, I humbly apologize. This Saturday, there is an adult Catechism class at Church, and I plan on attending, so my thoughts will be more in line with the LCMS Church.

say a prayer for the whole of the Christian family(denominations).

and God bless you. 👍

May the Lord our God bless you my friend. Keep up the good work 👍

Bless you in your journey. And should you feel so inclined, your separated brothers and sisters in the Catholic Church would love to share our faith with you as well. RCIA sessions are open to all and there is absolutely no pressure involved - just learn and share.

And never stop praying for unification of all Christians!

Praying for you! Thanks for the apology and clarification. We are all, after all, trying to get home 😉 Hopefully we all, as well as I, can recognise and make amends, as necessary, and forgive each other too. Great example mate.

At my LC-MS church, the pastors have everyother week on a Saturday a hour and half session titled Table Talk where we study the Lutheran Confessions. About three times during the year the pastors have a “We Believe, Teach, and Confess” class for new members and for current members. Our church holds a conference once or twice a year that we bring a professor from Fort Wayne Seminary or one of the Concordia’s for a talk on various subject. One of the interesting one was by Pastor Klemet I. Preus who wrote the book The Fire and the Staff.

May the Holy Spirit enlighten you and fill your heart and mind with the spirit of truth, batman!

Remember, find the Church that Christ established, and then conform your views to that Church. Do not shop around for a church that matches what you want to believe. For that is the essence of creating a god in your own image!

I hope you check back and share those “aha” moments. 🙂

Unfortunately I think that is true for many churches. I think this has even been true for clergy.

You are in a better position than I am. My church claims the Augsburg Confession as a foundational document. I actually read it a few years ago. I couldn’t reconcile our practice with that document. It left me thinking either those in charge have never read the document or are supremely deficient in reason.

My brother converted(?) to the Lutheran Church when he got married. I would imagine that would be easier (and keep the peace - which is important) than convincing his fiancee to convert to Catholicism. Even though I was puzzled by his decision I love him and I love you as my brother in Christ. 🙂
