A Council of all Christendom?

The point is that the baptismal records are believed to be the official count. If that record follows you to a new parish, no problem. But if that baptized person converts to a Pentecostal church, or even to Islam, and requests that the church expunge the record in the membership count, that does not happen. In other words, a baptized person cannot leave the Catholic church as far as the official numbers are concerned.
So that is definitely the way the poll counted?

You might just barely be right. For now the RCC has a very slim majority over the rest of Christianity on total numbers (50.1% of all Christians to be precise).
Padres, from where are you getting these numbers?

Last count i saw was as follows:

Catholics: 1.1 billion
Protestants: 400k
Orthodox: about 400k

Does the protestant figure include generally recognised heretical sects like LDS and JW?

You meant 400 million… 😃

But Padres, remember all the postings here, and there have been many, that argue the question, ‘Who is counted as a Catholic?’ The consensus opinion is that anyone who has been baptized a Catholic is counted in the roles of members.
Consensus of whom?

I have participated, in the past, in threads like that on a certain website. I stopped because they were downright ridiculous.

Sorry, I was referring to discussions here, over the past several years.

Just invite the EO’s, Lutherans and Anglicans. 😉 Oh, and the Old Catholic Church
That would be a good start. At least there are some common beliefs in place, most notably on (some of) the sacraments.

The issue then becomes quickly with some Anglicans and Lutherans what to do with female clergy, which Catholics, EO, and orthodox Lutherans and Anglicans will reject.

Kindly remove some chairs from the convention hall, please. 😦
