After discussing Fatima in another thread, I thought I would address these questions in it’s own thread.

I have 2 problems with Fatima.
  1. The 3rd secret predicts the killing of the Pope. JP2 survived, but many see this as the fruition of the 3rd secret. Am I missing something?
  2. Sister Lucy had reputedly asked Mary if the 3 children would make it to heaven, and Mary assured them they would, but Fransisco would have to say a lot of rosaries. I don’t think rosaries gets your ticket punched.
Comments?

In response to your second point, I think that was a bit of tweaking, since praying the rosary is quite often a penitential act assigned during Confession; it would be like saying, "You’ll get there no problem, but Francisco will get there by the skin of his teeth.’

That’s my read, anyway. I’ll have to ask my deacon, since he just returned from a pilgrimage to Fatima.

I believe that the main point here is about praying, praying, and praying - God will listen to you, and Virgin Mary’s intercession is very powerful and that God does not want to deny Her asking.

if you have problems with Fatima, first research what really happened, and what the messages really say, and do not rely on any anti-Catholic or dissident resources (like Fr. Gruner he is bad news). 2nd if you still have a problem, you are free to disregard Fatima and anything associated with it (except of course Catholic doctrine on Mary in general). it is not a required belief of Catholics.

Praying the rosary isn’t necessary to get into Heaven. But it can help your journey along the way by giving you the graces to avoid sin. Maybe that is what Mary was referring to…that without the graces Francisco would receive from praying the rosary, he would be vulnerable to falling into mortal sin.

As for this one, two things could have happened here. One being that the secret wasn’t referring to JP2 at all or two, that it was referring to him but due to the prayers of the faithful, his life was spared. He did credit Our Lady of Fatima with saving his life.

Either one is a reasonable possibility.

And of course, you don’t have to accept this at all because it’s not a required belief of the Church. BUT sometimes it can be prudent to pay attention to these things when the evidence overwhelmingly suggests that it came from Heaven. Which I think it has with Fatima.

But the choice is still up to you.

I understand this, and am trying to take it seriously. I have looked at Catholic web sites, not any others.

I’m on the fence with this. I want to believe that the Fatima miracles are geniune, but have doubts. I’ll probably table it for further thought later and move on.

Thank you all for your replies.
