I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. Galatians 1:6-9)
A Course in Miracles preaches another Christ, therefore it is not of or from Christ.

For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him 2 Corinthians 11:4
Scripture clearly warns of new revelations. Not all new revelations are bad but must pass the test of scripture. ACIM fails this test.

Only one person on this thread appears to believe in the ACIM and justifies her actions as being open minded to new things while those who don’t believe in it are closed minded to new revelations. The Mormons believe in new revelations for their church, they come from God through the Mormon prophet. Do you believe the Mormon church to be true because they claim to receive new revelations from God? Angie, if you know your Catholic Church, the deposit of faith is completed and closed. There are no new public revelations. Don’t you know what your own Church teaches?

You would do well to do some studying about the Catholic Church instead of the false teachings of the ACIM

Rick! It’s interesting that you should quote early scripture and imply in the same breath the the Catholic Church hasn’t added anything to this early teaching. There was no formalization back then no distinct sacraments or cathecisms, no ordinations or rules to say it was a mortal sin not to go to mass. In fact, ‘mass’ didn’t exist. Only a gathering of faithful around a meal table exchanging bread & wine in His rememberence and sharing love. Be careful you don’t make the ‘Catholic Church’ into an idol. I love the Church and enjoy all its riches. Thank you Jam/Techno/Theresa for your imput. I have a great yearning for my old ‘New Testiment’ I use to read when I was younger. It’s well worn and had all the words spoken by Jesus in RED. “I HAVE SEEN THE LIGHT” The only reason I was impressed with ACIM was because it seemed to resonated the same Jesus I had listened to in the 4 gospels. Obviously this isn’t everyones experience, so BECAUSE of the inconsistancy in experience, I’m returning to my CONSISTANT first love. THE GOOD NEWS.Hallaluyah! And Rick, be careful you don’t become like the pious pharisee who proclaimed his virtue while standing up in the front pew. Jesus dismissed him. Love Angie:D

Well it appears your true nature is starting to show. Never once did I proclaime my virtue in my posts. All I have done is point out the teachings of the Church and the errors of your ACIM.

Now we know for sure that you cannot be a Catholic or you don’t know the history of the Church at all.
In fact, ‘mass’ didn’t exist.
I don’t believe any Catholic would make such a statement.
“Assemble on the Lord’s day and break bread and offer the Eucharist, but first make confession of your faults, so that your sacrifice may be a pure one. Anyone who has a difference with his fellow is not to take part with you until they have been reconciled, so as to avoid any profanation of your sacrifice [Matt. 5:23–24]. For this is the offering of which the Lord has said, ‘Everywhere and always bring me a sacrifice that is undefiled, for I am a great king, says the Lord, and my name is the wonder of nations’ [Mal. 1:11, 14]” (Didache 14 [A.D. 70]).
Your belief in the ACIM shows that you are weak in your Catholic faith. Only the weak would be attracted to such a document. The ACIM conflicts not only with Catholic but all Christian teaching. You cannot serve two masters Angie. In fact, by accepting the teachings of the ACIM you have rejected the Catholic Church.

If you strip away the politics and rivalries that changed interpretation of different passages in the bible, you would see that this is true. And TRUTH has a certain ring. It cuts to the core. Don’t be disceived by the small minded. GOD is greater and bigger than anything we can imagine. To put Him into our tiny little boxes of understanding would be false belief.
If you want to talk to people who bent the interpretation of scripture for their own means, go seek the protestants, NOT the Catholic Church which is unified in its faith and teaching. In fact, it would seem that the one changing the interpretation of scripture is this very book you claim to possess all truth and answer everything (as you stated yourself.)

Do you presume to know better than what the Church (founded by Jesus and protected by the Holy Spirit) teaches? If that book truly was inspired, it wouldn’t be teaching so many falsities which you seem blind to acknowledge, hiding these lies as coming from “close-minded individuals” or “different views”.

Even if you insist on us being wrong, be humble, as is asked of all of us, to accept the Church’s teachings and to be open to the fact that you may be wrong.

You say truth has a certain ring, which I hope doesn’t imply FEELINGS as those can often-times confuse us. Our faith is not about feeling, it’s about TRUTH (which articles already linked here show ACIM lacks).
And remember, it wasn’t long ago the the accepted church belief was that the earth was flat.
What’s science got to do with this discussion? Beside, it wasn’t the Church that held that belief alone but THE WORLD. It seems you’re trying to discredit the Church with such a statement, which I hope is not your intent.

What science DOES is help us understand more of God’s creation. The Church has always been about protecting life and the lives of those who cannot yet defend themselves. Whereas before we didn’t know exactly how a child came to be until the quickening when one could feel the baby alive and kicking, now we know that we have a human life at the very moment of conception. This (relatively) new understanding helps her reinforce the teaching of the sanctity of life now knowing that from the moment of conception we have a human being.

Sharon Lee Giganti did a few shows on Catholic Answers Live about the dangers and deceptions of A Course In Miracles. It’s New Age Occultism.

Not good! Avoid it!
I just have to chime in here and say I Agree. It’s virtually impossible to convince anyone who is taking New Age seriously, that there is a problem with it. Now I see it’s a type of drug.

Now understand demoniac as applicable here. If anyone wants to check out what is regarded by readers of it as the best channeling in English browse a copy of the magazine The Sedona Journal of Emergence.

Many offerings presume to channel such beings as St.Michael, Mary, Jesus, etc. It is not so easy to do that as the number of people who do it evidently think it is. Where the material comes from is a level where many things and beings exist; the best demoniac elements are extremely deceptive. That’s the basis of their success. Their goal is to convince people they are god, which makes a fertile field for all kinds of acting out of all kinds of desires. I’ve learned that doing that simply isn’t productive of good, so I conclude that anything other than a humble attitude in the face of … everything ? - has elements of the demoniac.

Perhaps I’m oversimplifying but. . . . !

This type of reading matter used to be comforting to me in a way, as I was exiting from Hare Krishna, which in fact has a lot in common with the New Age. Now it is anathema, basically, except for the good material I have found on gemstones and flowers, as well as herbs, available through Pegasus Products, which came out in the 1980’s and which was so technical and astonishing that I gave Harvard’s biology department copies because the work they were doing there could benefit from the information, I felt.

Vis a vis the New Age, sinister elements are the most important, though. I agree all the stuff in The Course in Miracles is very appealing but add that if you are lucky, there will come a time when you will understand the harm in it. Much later, when you are in a different mental and emotional space, perhaps I could say?

The upshot of it all is a continuation of relativity in all doings and on all levels here on earth. The ultimate goal of it is that each human is equal to God, The carrot is dangled in front of people and they never reach it, because it is simply impossible to become God.

We had ONE incarnation. Many saints and martyrs, many miracles. The New Age cannot hold a candle to any of it.

Let those with eyes to see, see.

Blessed Sunday to all.

Nan.

The ultimate goal of it is that each human is equal to God, The carrot is dangled in front of people and they never reach it, because it is simply impossible to become God.
That reminds me of a story in Genesis 3. Except it was a fruit tree in the garden of Eden.

I found these programmes very informative.

Former New Thought “insider”, Sharon Lee Giganti is committed to exposing the hidden dangers of the New Thought Movement and its’ widely spreading philosophies.
After suspecting that her New Age influence and teaching might have unwittingly played a part in such horrific tragedies as murder and suicide, Sharon finally realized how life threatening their occult methods could be, and returned to the Catholic Church.
Now a certified Catholic Catechist and postulant of The Holy Family Institute, Sharon’s eye-witness testimony reveals the hazardous aspects of recent New Thought block-busters such as, “The Secret”, “A Course in Miracles” and Eckhart Tolle’s “A New Earth”— and, in doing so, actually reinforces the saving Truths of our Catholic Faith.

TOPICS COVERED: The new age movement and the book “A New Earth”, Discussion of the most toxic elements of a new earth philosophy, the transformation of human character from good to evil, New Age and de-individualization, New Age and de-humanization, New Age and a lack of supervision or absence of superiors, New Age and altered statees of consciousness, New Age and an artificial extended present moment, New Age and the cessation of judging or evaluating, New Age and the normalizing of taboos.

Thank you.
I believe that many of "a course in Miracles"quotes have been taken out of context. A grave mistake! This course needs to be read with an open mind (all be it a discerning attitude). Rather than discounting the Bible, it actually reinforces it along with putting light on areas that ‘made no sense’ before. So many beliefs make sense with this new interpretation of the word. It is the only interpretation that answers ALL QUESTIONS and explains (with sense) ALL MOTIVATION. We would be small minded in truth if we dismissed this revelation from Jesus. And why would it not be from Jesus as it is claimed?? Everything said alines with Jesus Bible teaching. What everyone forgets is that God created us in His image. That means - eternal spirit/ perfect & sinless. If God could create anything that can sin He would not be God. And Jesus is said to be the 1st of many brothers. That means we, who come after, are just like Him and part of a Sonship of Christ. That is why Jesus said that greater things we would do in Christ’s name then He. I suggest you read ‘a course in miracles’ before you pass judgement. And remember, it wasn’t long ago the the accepted church belief was that the earth was flat.

Pye, I’d urge you to listen to one of those shows of Sharon Lee Giganti or read what people said in THIS thread. You’re being deceived too.
What everyone forgets is that God created us in His image. That means - eternal spirit/ perfect & sinless.
If by this you agree that we’re sinless then you are gravely mistaken. We were indeed made in His likeness and image but it was because of the fall that we have a broken nature that Jesus came to restore BUT we’re not sinless. Otherwise this implies that any and all actions are good because we cannot sin and that’s a VERY dangerous train of thought.

May God enlighten you too.

Are you then saying that BEFORE THE FALL God created us imperfect? It is true that AFTER the fall we perceived ourselves as attacking God, as Bad, as Evil even, deserving of sever punishment. Forget about what we have read in Genises in the bible for a sect (I don’t mean to say not to believe in it or that it is incorrect because it’s not. What I mean is that some bible passages, although inspired by the Holy Spirit, because they are interpreted by man, may have been twisted by THEIR incorrect understanding of God. There is a Catholic link discussing this very subject on line as we speak. 'did the Catholic church ever edit parts of the bible. Check it out as there is some interesting repoite). What I am saying is that our TRUE nature is that which existed BEFORE the fall. Perfect & sinless as is God created and we were made in His perfect likeness. God cannot create ANYTHING imperfect otherwise He would be imperfect. What man is trying to do is go back to God. Man could not do this in his own power BECAUSE of his belief in his sin. Jesus KNEW His fully sinless nature but also he was perceived as fully man. He is the ONLY one who could be our salvation BECAUSE His communication with God was unrestricted. Everything and Everyone is connected to Jesus, God perfect Christ. 'I am the branch & you are the branches". “Whatever you do to the least of my brothers you do to me”. “Don’t hide your light under a bushel”. These are but a few passages telling us Who we REALLY are. Don’t get me wrong. We (man made flesh) are NOTHING without Jesus. We are wretched flesh. Nothing but dust. BUT in Jesus we have eternal life. God is eternal. Man is finite. Therefore, for us to have eternal life, we would HAVE to be AS WE WERE FIRST CREATED. THIS is the miracle Jesus won for us all. And all we have to do is believe in Him. A very tiny easy penence indeed.

All of these New Age writers are making an appeal to people who have weakly defined identities. These books all tell the reader that he is God.

There is an old addage, ‘know thyself’. It means to know that you are not God.

If a person can seek God, he can discover with the help of God what he truly is…

Are you then saying that BEFORE THE FALL God created us imperfect? It is true that AFTER the fall we perceived ourselves as attacking God, as Bad, as Evil even, deserving of sever punishment.
I wrote very little, so I’ll answer your question by quoting myself exactly once more:
"Liraco:
We were indeed made in His likeness and image but it was because of the fall that we have a broken nature…
I never said anything about being made broken before.
I hope by “win” you meant gave, and not implying that He had to **earn **our salvation.

You’re right that we are nothing without Him BUT your last words seem to betray something which I also hope you don’t believe: we are NOT “once saved always saved” by our mere belief. Recall that Jesus said in Matthew 7:21
"Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.
Our “true nature” will not be restored until after the resurrection, at the end of times, NOT NOW.
some bible passages, although inspired by the Holy Spirit, because they are interpreted by man, may have been twisted by THEIR incorrect understanding of God.
The biggest red flag though in what you said (wrapped in truths to deceive the weakly formed in their faith) is your mention of the Catholic Church as interpreting the Bible “by man”. If anything, it is that book that you falsely claim to hold all truths is one that is made by man with a wrong understanding by man. Just as our protestant brothers and sisters have been taught false things by those who came before them interpreting scripture on their own, so too is the writer of your book who claims to know the truth.

The Catholic Church was established by Jesus, and it is protected by the Holy Spirit to teach truth. It didn’t alter scripture and it was the one responsible for collecting the writings that would become the Bible. It’s the Holy Spirit that helps His Church interpret properly and give it authority to teach. What authority does your book’s author have?

Pye, I’d urge you to listen to one of those shows of Sharon Lee Giganti or read what people said in THIS thread.
Thank you for your suggestions. Prior to my comment I read the thread and prior to that I listened to Sharon Lee Giganti.
You’re being deceived too.
Deceived? “Nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists. Herein lies the peace of God.”

Then I am confused on your post. Perhaps I just misunderstood (and I apologize if that is the case).

Since you said “thank you” and then quoted Angie’s defense of the Course in Miracles book, I thought your “thank you” was aimed at what she said (implying you agree).

Again, if I misunderstood then I’m sorry about implying something that isn’t so.

Hmm . . .
What I mean is that some bible passages, although inspired by the Holy Spirit, because they are interpreted by man, may have been twisted by THEIR incorrect understanding of God.
So, the Course in Miracles is a reliable interpretation, despite the caveat about " . . .interpreted by man . . ."

Meanwhile, the Catholic Church’s “interpretation” of the Scriptures . . . .Oh. Wait, there is no official Catholic interpretation of the Scriptures.

This should mean that, by Angie’s own words, Catholic dogma is far more reliable than A Course in Miracles. And far less expensive, too.

All my best . . .

You are absolutly right!! Over my time of progressing through ACIM I am finding that the Catholic interpretation of scripture is most true. By this I mean that as arguements present, I research what EXACTLY the Church says on a particular subject by usually theologns like St.Thomas Aquinus etc, and find that their isn’t any difference in what the two say. I have found get comfort in knowing that what the Church REALLY says on particular subjects is in complete align with what Jesus is saying in ACIM. Of course this would have to be. What I am also finding is what the Church theologns are saying is in some instances different to what average Catholics believe. I found it interesting that Thomas Aquinus pointed out a text in the bible ( in James I think. I’ll post it when I find it again) where the 12 apostles were complaining to Jesus about other persons “not of their group” preaching about Jesus. They wanted to stop them. But Jesus said to let them be. That those who are for Him are not against Him. The words Jesus actually used were more forceful. This would diffinately put a different slant of Pauls words of “do not listen to those who preach a different Jesus”. But I have always said, the ACIM is not doing so. What is becoming more & more apparent is it is approching the subject of ‘man’ from a heavenly eternal point of view NOT an earthly finite point of view which has alway been the past approach accept when Jesus was on earth. I will tell you now, that I approach this course with considerable caution. I make sure that Jesus is foremost in my mind and that my trust in HIM will keep me safe from wrong interpretation. This is the same promise to all those who seek the truth. This is why I NOW do believe in papal falibility in matters of moral etc. This was always something that I believed but wanted to know HOW & WHY! and what made this so EXACTLY. Through ACIM now I know.

I have found get comfort in knowing that what the Church REALLY says on particular subjects is in complete align with what Jesus is saying in ACIM.
So this new man-made and man-interpreted book is inspired by Jesus? Every post just makes this sound more and more dangerous.
That those who are for Him are not against Him. The words Jesus actually used were more forceful. This would diffinately put a different slant of Pauls words of “do not listen to those who preach a different Jesus”.
I thought your book TAUGHT you what scripture says. You make evident your misunderstanding of scripture here. Jesus says those who are **FOR **Him, and Paul reiterates by saying “those who preach a **DIFFERENT **Jesus”. You imply a contradiction or some ambiguity where there is NONE. Both instances warn against those who are against what’s really taught.
I make sure that Jesus is foremost in my mind and that my trust in HIM will keep me safe from wrong interpretation. This is the same promise to all those who seek the truth.
This same claim is made by the protestants and yet there are thousands of variations on the “truth”, Unless the Holy Spirit is a liar or deceitful (obviously not), then you’re not really being guided just like their fallible interpretations aren’t.

You still don’t answer how a man-made interpretation presented in ACIM is more reliable and apparently “clearer”.

I know you’re intentions are good but you’re not seeing the lie and I pray that you do before you go too deep into this hole.

Thanks for starting this informative thread.

Years ago, CIM was super-popular and I knew quite a number of people who were into that, including several Catholics. Maybe it was just me, but I could never get my head around CIM and never really understood what it was about. This thread cleared up a lot of doubt and misinformation I had.

So this new man-made and man-interpreted book is inspired by Jesus? Every post just makes this sound more and more dangerous.

As you have OBVIOUSLY not studied ACIM, you do not see or hear what it says. You can make no REAL comment on who you think the author is. I have no problem believing that Jesus inspired the Gospels just as I have no problem believing the He also inspired ACIM. I don’t see any reason why He would not speak today as He did then. I still can’t see a difference in Jesus actual teachings and what He says in ACIM. The foundation being. God created you, you did not create God. Let God’s light, through Jesus, shine out to all men through you. “Love one another as I have loved you”. and "Judge not! " The measure you judge someone by will be the same measure in which God will judge you but three fold.

Both instances warn against those who are against what’s really taught.

and what IS really taught?? I repeat: JUDGE NOT! was a command by Jesus Himself.

This same claim is made by the protestants and yet there are thousands of variations on the “truth”, Unless the Holy Spirit is a liar or deceitful (obviously not), then you’re not really being guided just like their fallible interpretations aren’t.

aren’t you getting mixed up between tradition and truth. God’s fundamental truths are not contested by Protestant faiths only how we practice our faith. I suppose I’ll open a whole new can of worms with this comment. You need to read some of John Paul 11 writings on this.

You still don’t answer how a man-made interpretation presented in ACIM is more reliable and apparently “clearer”.

I didn’t say it was any more reliable. And as far as clearer, most of the lessons by Jesus in the Gospels were in parables, making them OPEN to all sorts of interpretation. A fact that you (& I) just proved with above comment. Our knowledge of who God is lends directly how we interpret certain passages. What I said was that it directly addressed and answered a lot of questions not done so clearly by the Gospels. Probably because the questions weren’t being asked. But today with all the scientific knowledge and mapping of the human genome, the questions being asked are more informed and more specific. And don’t say “what has science to do with it”. Science will eventually PROVE the existance of The Creative God. When it does, a whole set of new questions will arise.

I know you’re intentions are good but you’re not seeing the lie and I pray that you do before you go too deep into this hole.
Thankyou for your prayers. Whether you know it or not you have just practiced THE fundametal lesson of ACIM. (AND the Bible. AND the Church) Acknowledging “Father forgive her, she does do not know what she does” and then praying for me (blessing me) . In so doing, you are also forgiven in same measure.
