A cross or a crucifix?

Which would you wear a cros of a crucifix? I think I would rather wear a crucifix, but I haven’t seen many for sale in jewelry stores…They usually show very beautiful crosses

I reacll when I was a girl it was more of a protestant thing to wear a plain cross…I have a cross I seldom wear, I prefer a miraculous medal

Is there a place I can find a nice crucifix that doesn’t look like it is made for a man only?
 
My suggestion would be a crucifix. I think the cross, while an appropriate sign of our faith, does not invoke the same emotions as a crucifix. The corprus reminds us that Christ had to DIE in order to rise again.

If you are interested in ordering a crucifix, I would ask your pastor if he has a catalog for the church supply store he gets his wine/alter bread/etc. from. Hopefully he would let you add the crucifix you want onto his next order, and pay you directly for the cost.
 
Or if there is a store called “Mustard Seed”, they are usually associated with catholic items…books, rosaries, bibles and such…
 
A cross without Christ is just a torture tool. It is the sacrifice that is important.

Crucifix.

Find a nice Catholic bookstore. They almost always have a bunch for sale.
 
Hi, I suggest getting a crucifix, and I agree it’s hard to find one but just keep on looking 🙂 I looked for a while and eventually found one at a jewellery store, and now I’m really happy with it! It doesn’t look like it’s for a man 😉 you just have to look really carefully. Or, you can order one online! That is probably easier lol. Sorry I don’t know any websites though, but I’m sure someone else does… maybe EWTN?

Then what is the point of making the sign of the cross? Aren’t you then just signing a torture tool?

Personally, I prefer a crucifix.

Go to a higher-end jewellery store - they are more likely to have something nice, and a better selection. Expect to pay for what you get, though, too - nice stuff doesn’t come cheap.

It is a little hard to make the sign of the crucifix.

Some religious (the Capuchins for sure, and I think others) wear a rosary on their cincture. The rosary has a plain cross rather than a crucifix in order for each member to be mindful of carrying his own cross.

I didn’t know about the Capuchins, but Carmelites have an empty Cross, to make them mindful that they must climb up on the Cross themselves.

The idea that a Catholic may not use an empty cross is as spurious as the Protestant idea that you CAN’T have a Cross with a Corpus. And if the former is true, then the Church has erred for centuries, since a great number of our own churches and cathedrals have had Crosses without the Corpus on them on their towers and steeples. The current Pope doesn’t wear a crucifix, but a plain pectoral cross. I can look for a clear shot of JPII and Paul VI (and for that matter, all of the Popes back to Blessed Pius IX have been photographed). I don’t think he’s the first NOT to wear a crucifix.
 
I wear a crucifix at all times. You run the risk of being mistaken for a Protestant if you just wear a plain cross! 😃
 
I just don’t see a connection to an empty cross…So many people were crucified, but when I see a corpus on the cross ,I see Christ

I really think a cross has sort of become a piece of fashionable jewelry, rather than a religious symbol for many, and that sort of leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth
 
I wear a Crucifix. I bought it from “The Catholic Book Store” in Texas. Just search the internet for a crucifix necklace and I’m sure all kinds of sites will show up.

The reason I wear a Crucifix, is because I’m Catholic and per tradition of society, (word veiws, most Catholics were the Crucifix.) no one doubts for a moment that I’m Catholic when they see me. I’ve heard several people who are not Catholics, yet they are Christians say…they perfer the empty cross because Jesus has risen. They think we still have Jesus on the Cross.

Although this in Not true, that’s not how we see it, but it is the reminder to us of all he (Jesus) went through for us.
 
I wear a crucifix. Wearing just a cross has never felt right. Wearing the crucifix reminds me of what Jesus did for me and it also lets everyone else know that I am Catholic Christian not just Christian. :signofcross:

Crosses without a corpus aren’t some kind of protestant invention though. They have been around and used since the beginning of Christianity. I guess if you’re reluctant to wear one because protestants have taken a liking to them do to their own iconoclastic tendancies that’s your thing then. Personally, I’ve never seen someone wearing a cross and though, “There goes a protestant!”.

I’m offended when protestants attempt to hijack the term “Christian” for themselves to the exclusion of the authentic Apostolic Churches- I’d think one might feel similarly about their attempt to do the same with the Cross of the Lord. 🤷
 
Crucifix - reminds me that Jesus died for my sins and helps me commit fewer of them. Also is a testament to the one True Church. Wearing a crucifix opens the door to evangelizing - don’t leave home without it. 👍
 
A crucifix was given to me at my baptism, so it seems traditional for Catholics to wear one. But if you can’t find a crucifix wearing a cross should be alright; I think either one would make God smile 😃
 
Those who think a Cross without corpus is non-Catholic, are not aware of the fullness of Catholicism.

Many of the Eastern Churches emphasis the Resurrection during the Divine Liturgy and many of the CATHOLICS in these Churches where a “plain” Cross reflecting their custom.

Nothing less Catholic about them!

Nothing wrong with a Crucifix either - I love them both!
