A cross or a crucifix?

That’s a lovely little one.

I favor a St. Benedict’s crucifix, not for the appearance but for the two sacramentals together. That however is generally quite manly, they should come up with a more feminine version of the combination. All it would take is some thinning of the beams and some filigree.

I’ve seen some lovely crosses, but a lovely crucifix is the way to go. 🙂

I recently picked up one of these rosaries. Useful looking is it not?
 
Shin that rosary is beautiful and it looks like it is made from sterling

I am picky about what metal a rosary is made of because I dislike the smell of certain metals like copper, and I don’t want something that will turn color either

I have had some very nice responses …I know that the Franciscans are supposed to be the corpus on the cross the wear

I think my biggest complaint of wearing a cross is the fashion industry has sort of taken it over and it kind of irks me a bit…I do own one, and I do on occasion wear it

I also like a 4 way cross a lot

There’s a lovely rosary on Ebay with all Miraculous Medals too, but I fear it’s oxidized silver, which I no jewelery expert think perhaps is the changing color stuff? I like a good black bead rosary with corpus, simple too. But there are so many options, inexpensive and very expensive! 🙂

It’s nice to have heirloom quality sacramentals when you can.

The 4-Way crucifix I like a good deal too. 🙂

Blessed John XXIII, no Corpus (I think that’s a single stone in the middle).
 
I found quite a few pictures of HH Blessed Pope Pius IX, but in ALL of them, either his hand or his arm is blocking his pectoral cross, or it’s tucked into the sash of his cassock. Sorry.

I think that the preceding photos prove that when it comes to either a Cross or a Crucifix as an adornment, there’s room for both in the Church. Further, the Church has an actual feast in honor of the Cross Itself (the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross). I don’t see how an empty cross can be bad, unless one insists that it MUST be empty.

If memory serves, (and I could well be mistaken), pectoral crosses were, by tradition, simply crosses, often studded with one or more gems. These days I see both regularly. The same bishop often alternates styles.

Over the years I’ve known many bishops (and other clerics entitled to pontificalia) both Western and Oriental/Eastern, and I don’t offhand recall any wearing a pectoral cross with corpus prior to the 1970s. That memory seems to coincides with the series of papal photos: first one showing a corpus was Paul VI. But, OTOH, as I said above, my memory could be faulty.

I wear a crucifix. Here’s a link to an online store. I have never bought from this site - but they seem to have quite a few crucifixes and medals.
