I’m not looking for opinions on mixed-religion marriages, just a simple answer 🙂

If a married Catholic man wants to become a Deacon, must his wife be a Catholic?

Each diocese sets it’s own rules on such things as family stability and expected participation by the deacon’s wife. Check with the vocations office in your diocese.

It’s not a requirement, although she must support his calling and is usually expected or required to participate to some degree in the training. He also must be living a fully Catholic lifestyle – i.e., if any children aren’t being raised Catholic, it would be very hard for him to be ordained.

Why Not ask your Husband to talk to is priest about this? My aunt is no Longer Catholic, she is also remarried and her Husband is a deacon, as far as I know she is not very involved in the church. Maybe this is an exceptional case, although I do not really know the details. He should talk to his priest.
