My sweet grandmother passed away in the Lord’s Arms this morning. She lived to be 94 with little suffering at all. I did not go to Mass today because of it…Did I sin?

I shall offer Gregorian Masses for her. She did receive Holy Communion and Anointing of the Sick about six months ago, so I can be confident her soul is ok…(she was in a nursing home and had no idea what a mortal sin was anymore). Of course Jesus has the final say.

That of course would depend on the reason why you could not go to Mass this morning. I assume you were traveling, or something else prevented you from getting to Mass that was out of your direct control.

In my opinion , you didn’t but I am no priest to tell you . I recently missed Mass for 1 month and my priest said I didn’t need to confess because I had a just reason to not attend. Ask your priest or ask on the Ask an Apologist forum.

And I am so sorry for your loss. Keeping you, your family and your mother’s soul in my prayers. :hug1:

My family, especially my mother, needed me by her side.

heartfelt condolences to you and all who loved your grandmother

may i ask, what was her first name, so that we may offer prayers for the repose of her immortal soul?

in Christ,

K

Mary…and thank you for your prayers…

As another poster said, I’m no priest, but I’d say there was no sin. I can’t imagine the Son of God, who loved His own mother so greatly, would condemn you for caring for your own in her moment of great grief.
