Jesus - it appears - didn’t try to defend himself. If that is so, he helped to paint Pilate into a corner so that Pilate got as far as giving people the choice Jesus in effect behaved as though He had a death-wish That’s what would be said of anyone else. JESUS did not defend himself. how could he. those lying, thieving moneylenders sure turned out winners,

who accused Jesus,

and who chose Barabas,

certainly not the Romans,

but his last words certainly apply to todays world,

“forgive them father they know not what they do.”

Besides, this world is not the whole story.

If Christ volunteered to die, why have people nail him to a cross. I am sorry but that does not fit well with, the teachings of Christ, the moneylenders were thrown out of the Temple, 10 days later Christ is dead,
In todays world anyone who mixes it with the moneylenders is crucified, you dont have to volunteer to be crucified…

Jesus himself said that if he called for it, 12 legions of Angels would be at his side to protect him. It only took two angels to destroy Sodam and Gommora and the other cities. What could 144,000 angels do?

You cannot kill a man who has the power. If you are unarmed and I am armed, and I have others pointing guns at you, all ready to shoot, then how can you kill me? You cannot, unless I allow you to. Jesus could have ended the whole thing at any time. He chose not to.

As a bit of extra information to consider on this subject, the story of Barabbas is probably symbolic fiction. There is no known reference anywhere in either Roman or Jewish history that mentions such a practice. So, rather than being a “common custom at Passover”, there is no mention outside the gospels of it ever existing (it is not mentioned in the earliest manuscripts of Luke).

As a symbolic story, however, it is certainly a powerfully true statement about the Jews and Jesus.
