A druidic ritual or an Evangelical service?

I was going through the old e-letters from Mr. Keating and I came across this video of a Mass in the Diocese of LA, celebrated by none other than Roger Cardinal Mahoney. Take a look if you havent seen it yet- 70.86.228.61/movie.htm

Mr. Keating uses this as an example of Liturgical Dancing, but I was stumped by a few other aspects of this “Mass”.

Since when does the incense get carried in a bowl? Has the thurible gone out of style?

Why are there so many female altar servers? I know they are allowed, and I am well aware that this is the Diocese of LA, but how come they all seem to be female here? And they are wearing those long robes, which togather with the bowl of incense remind me very much of some kind of pagan ceremony

Mr. Keating already drove the Liturgical dancing point home in his e-letter.

The music sounds like something that belongs in an Evangelical church- not a Catholic Mass.

Isnt Mass supposed to be Catholic, not protestant and certainly not pagan? This video embodies just about everything that is wrong with our modern Liturgy. It is irreverant! No wonder Catholics dont come to Mass anymore- they have lost their respect for the Eucharist!

Oh man my stomach is turning, I just can’t handle watching this. It literally makes me sick!

See when they mess with the Holy Sacrifice, it ceases to become about God, its more of: “Look at me! I’m so smart I came up with a better liturgy than the Church and 2000 years of tradition whoopee!”

It becomes a vehicle for their ego, if, as they claim, it was about worship, they would have stuck to the Church’s teachings and disciplines, they’ve worked for 2000 years, but instead they go from their own tastes, which is disastrous.

By turning away from Church discipline in the Liturgy they say implicitly; “yeah, we love Rome, but we know better.” It isn’t worship anymore, it becomes an advertisement for their views on what the Church should be.

I think I saw one male server in the cassock and surplice…

Lets all pray for our Bishops.

The liberals take the Sacrifice and turn it into something which it was never meant to be. It ceases to be about God, but becomes about them and their ideas. And mean while the average Catholic doesn’t know where to turn, they don’t know that this was not what Vatican II visualised, nor what Catholic worship is about. So they lose their faith, like almost all my friends have. It makes me sick.😦

I like Liturgical Dancing.

Just not in the Mass.

This “mass” here has all the wrong music. All they need to do now is chant some pagan names… And why do they have other people reading the gospel, like a play? And why is that woman in the procession holding her hands up to the crowd as if she
was a priestess?

The candle holding is from a Filipino dance called the Pandanggo sa Ilaw. But ugh, the clapping… Even at the Mass celebrated in Vancouver by this African guy told us to clap for Jesus…

Disgusting. I can tolerate praise and worship music in Mass, but liturgical dancing and twirling can be done outside of the Holy Mass. Ugh…

This is terrible—I didn’t listen to the music as I din’t have headphones, but I did see the proclamation of the Gospel, or a woman holding the Holy Book, which I presume she was proclaiming the Gospel, and I fastforwarded to the liturgical dancing—horrocious.  Also, the woman sitting by the clergy?

I must also note that I heard about the same thing at the consecration of the Cathedral of the Angels, also in LA, where nuns “blessed” the altar.

Ahhhhh…

What a sorrowful state of affairs.

Let us stand firm knowing Jesus is with us. I have confidence that the Church will address and settle these issues. We also can pray.

This looked like a recruitment film for Episcopalians. This is the kind of stuff I left in the Episcopal church.:o
