I do not agree with the way that Phil Robertson worded his comments referring to Black people under Jim Crow laws
Yes, what he said caused me to gasp in disbelief. I can only hope that someone pulled him aside and set him straight.

I wonder what there is to set him straight on. He stated what he saw. Can any of us tell another person what they supposed saw 50 years ago?

Now I can say with almost certainty that this whole thing was a publicity stunt.
I would disagree, this has been a PR fiasco for A&E. They had to go back to Robertson and make peace, because otherwise would have been a financial disaster for the company.

But in doing so, they alienate blacks and GLADD.

Not a good situation for the company to be in, especially since ratings were doing well and not in need of a publicity stunt.

A black person of his generation, who lived in the rural South, would probably be able to give him a more accurate understanding of how black sharecroppers actually felt.

But the question that GQ asked was what HE had witnessed, not what another person might have FELT.

Are you faulting him for answering the question as asked?
Here was his statement

“Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers,” he explained. “I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field … They’re singing and happy.”

“I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’ – not a word!” he said. “Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”

I do not agree with the way that Phil Robertson worded his comments referring to Black people under Jim Crow laws and one of his statements where he did not quote the Bible was crude, but GLAAD have lost credibility to critique Phil Robertson after they gave Dan Savage, who has said hateful and disgusting things about a range of public figures, an award.

Hey Abysinnia, I always like your posts and agree with most everything you have to say, but I don’t see where you’re coming from on this.

What did Phil say that you didn’t like about blacks? All I got out of his remarks was that they seemed happy to him and that they were godly people. In my experience the more someone has to put their hope and trust in God rather than worldly pleasures the happier they are. It seems some of the most miserable people in this world are the ones with the most money and power. It is not money or power or the lack of it that makes you happy or unhappy, it is finding our joy in God. That is the point I thought he was making.

He was relating personal experience.

Once their contract with A&E is done, The Robertsons will dump A&E and move to another network.

I am glad that they brought him back but this incident has definitely put a huge damper on how I feel about A&E and I probably won’t be watching their channel again any time soon. But then again, I don’t watch hardly any television as it is.

There are some who have permanently banned A&E from their home and won’t watch DD unless it moves to another station.
