Are judges guided by their consciences, or not? Should a Catholic judge be guided by their well-formed, Catholic conscience, or not? You seem to be saying that a well-formed, Catholic conscience is incongruous with a properly deciding justice. :eek:

Do you believe that our Catholic conscience should be separated from our work? A Catholic lawyer, doctor, salesman, etc. should leave his catholicity at home/Church? Really? This is contrary to Church teaching. Is that what they taught you and Sotomayor at Spellman?

Attended the Red Mass? So did Breyer, who’s not Catholic. So, I’m sure, did a lot of non-Catholic lawyers and judges.

Boy, I can sure tell I’m dealing with a lawyer. Being told about of lots of rules. But see, when, for example, one brings up Sotomayor’s attendance at the Red Mass in DC, it really doesn’t have a whole lot to do with the original post about her being a “famous alumna” of a Catholic school. But it does, again, bring her Catholicism up generally, unless it was an intentional irrelevance to the original post. On the assumption that it was not, and that it was intended to communicate something about her Catholicism, one can’t escape the really significant question concerning Sotormayor’s Catholicism (or as one poster suggested, lack thereof) from a Catholic point of view, which is her position on abortion. Don’t you lawyers have some legal rule about having to live with the result when one opens a subject up?
