Theodora’s post referrenced the Jerome Biblical
Commentary. Who am I to argue with these
scholars!

I keep in mind that, for the ancient Israelites,
“satan” was seen as the “adversary”…see the
Book of Job.

The only thing I can figure in all of this, is that
later Christian commentators saw a second,
equally valid, meaning in this Psalm.

I’ll look for a commentary on this Psalm in
Judaic sources.

Here is a basic example of the life stress inventory:

It doesn’t take long and is easy to compute. During the time when I had the same type of night wakings, I took the test and discovered my stress score was far above normal.

On another note: It’s always a good idea to be cautious about diagnosing something as “spiritual” or “demonic” without first discussing the problem with a priest or qualified spiritual advisors. There are lots and lots of books on the subject of spiritual warfare, but many of them are actually teaching what borders witchcraft (i.e. power struggles with spirits, how to command them, etc.).

This is not to say, lest I be misinterpreted, that there are not spiritual forces at work in our world. Absolutely there are. But it’s always best to let the trained authority of the Church deal with them! (end of tangent)
