A Few Guardian Angel Questions

OK, I will accept what you say. No Saint or Pope that has lived since the last original apostle past away has had a revelation that must be accepted by a Catholic to remain in full union with the Catholic Church. I also agree with you and will continue to pray the Rosary. I always knew the Rosary was a devotion and not a mandate of the Catholic Church.
However, back to the original thread. I now understand, we all have a guardian angel. But, we don’t know if it is one personal angel, or an angel assigned to watch over many at one time or if different angels at different times watch over and protect us.
I also might take a small pole. To see how many Catholics around me acknowege, no Saint or Pope has ever received any revelation since the passing of the last original apostle that must be believed to remain in full union with the Catholic Church. If the results are not good, I’ll let our Priest know.
I suggest, if you would like to know more about angels particularly from a Catholic perspective, read Peter Kreeft’s book “Angels (and Demons): What Do We Really Know About Them?” Kreeft discusses how we each have our own guardian angel as well as many other questions about angels and some about demons. Check it out. You might find it very interesting. 🙂

Is that a joke? The Church says that Catholics do not have to believe private revelations and you are taking a poll to decide if the Church is wrong???

Hello all, I believe that a guardian angel is with you always and tries to guide you to do the right thing but sometimes the demon that also is with us trying to get us to fall sometimes influence us to do wrong .As we grow older and wiser we learn to ignore the demon and follow the feeling we get from our guardian , this makes us do things when we are older that we never thought we would do when we were young.
Hit the nail on the head Professor John. 👍

I can only pray that I grow wiser as I grow older and learn to hear my Guardian Angels advice.

I’d like to share this. One fine afternoon I was taking my final exam in college and set of questions were randomly selected by the computer. I was already on my 30th question and I wasn’t sure about any of my answers. I will flunk my exam and consequently not graduate and will be indebted in the thousands$ for nothing. I talked to my guardian angel and I told him that I know he always watches over me but I never asked him any favour. I obliged and dared him to help me at that time no matter what it takes. Suddenly there was a loud thud in the building, the power fluctuated and all the computers reset so I got a new set of questions and I got a perfect score. Yes, that was my guardian angel, believe it or not. Everyday, I pray to my guardian angel. Remember the guardian angel prayer that we used to pray when we were children? They love that prayer.
:clapping:

Are Guardian Angels only assigned to 1 human being ever?

Or

Are Guardian Angels assigned to multiple human beings at the same time?

Or

Are Guardian Angels assigned to a human being at conception through death and then reassigned to another human being?

Also, do Guardian Angels remain with us during our time in Purgatory? And what about during our time in Heaven?
I met Fr Alessio in San Giovanni Rotondo. He took care of Padre Pio. He had some great stories to tell about Padre Pio. ewtn.com/padrepio/mystic/angels.htm

Is this a joke? Absolutly not. This pole has nothing to do with the teachings of the Church’s Magisterium. It has to do with the understanding of the sheep. So far everyone I have asked that question has said, I don’t know. What does this say for lay apologetics?

It depends how you phrased the question. It should be kept simple.

“Are Catholics obliged to believe private revelations recognized by the Church?”

As far as these forums are concerned I would be very surprised if anyone said yes.

Here’s one theory that will liven-up the topic. There is a possibility that God still creates angels just like how He creates human beings with individual souls everyday contrary to the belief of reincarnation/karma (sorry hindus, our God doesn’t recycle souls). There are baby angels called cherubims who also need to grow up to maturity and when they’re ready for the next big responsibility, they become guardian angels. All of us were born as babies including our God Jesus Christ who learned the human ways from our mother Mary, St. Joseph, St. Anne, St. Joaquim etc. Just a thought…

Sorry, you’re theory couldn’t be further from the truth… God does not still create angels. There are no baby angels. The Cherubim, far from babies , are huge and fearsome. You are correct that reincarnation is contrary to Catholic belief. Check the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Hi Waiting : It sounds like you are very 100% certain about what you said and I’m very curious about it. Where did you learn that? Can you copy & paste the actual Catholic cathechism/dogma and post it here about what you had said. Those baby angels with just heads and wings that we always see in the paintings, what are they?

As I understand it, the temptation of the angels, the fall of a third of them and the glorification of the remaining two-thirds happened before we were created. This would seem to imply that the creation of the angels is a done deal.

Also if God still creates them as they created us, I don’t think they’d be fit for the job, because they haven’t gone through their own test that angels have to go through to separate the good ones from the bad ones.

The way cherubs look is just an artistic thing. Check this out

they are also depicted with having the face of an ox, man, lion and eagle, and also with eyes all over.

The book Angels (and Demons) by Peter Kreeft (if I remember the source correctly) wrote that angels aren’t the cute little babies we usually think of, but are ferocious creatures – which makes sense, God wouldn’t give us little cupids to protect us from demons. They might not necessarily even look like anything because they have no corporeal bodies.

It’s an interesting way to look at it but I’m not sure it’s consistent with what we theologically know.

Yes, what I wrote about angels is accurate. I have studied and taught religion most of my life, and I am a very senior citizen. There’s so much more to be learned, but what we are discussing here is pretty elementary Catholicism. Someone on this thread has suggested reading Peter Kreeft’s “Angels and Demons.” That will answer a lot of your questions. I’ve heard Mother Angelica on EWTN many times express her disgust with showing the Cherubim as baby angels, when they’re really very powerful angels. Artistic expression is legal, so an artist can depict his subjects any way he chooses. God bless.

Yeah, you’re right about the book. Peter Kreeft’s book Angels (and Demons):What Do We Really Know About Them? is an excellent source to learn about angels. He also has written it in a very simple format (question and answer) and he includes many questions he has discussed with his students. 🙂
