Background: I reveived an email Friday morning asking me to switch Lector dates for the upcoming Sunday. I am scheduled for this Sunday (2 days from now), they are scheduled for next Sunday (9 days from now).
So I have a few questions for the Lectors:
So I have a few questions for the Lectors:
- How many weeks out do you start preparing for a Sunday reading?
- How many times do you think you read through the entire passage?
- Do you have a policy about switching dates with other Lectors?
Like a minimum of 2 weeks notice? - Do you try to switch dates or just give your date to someone else?
The thinking here is that they may have already invested a lot of time preparing for their reading. - How much time do you spend preparing with the Other Lector’s reading for that same day (in case they can not make it to Mass)?
- I like to start 4 weeks ahead. We may have 1200 people at 10:00 am Mass, I have to be thoroughly prepared so that I am not nervous. I was Lector Easter Sunday, we had about 2000 people.
- I may read the entire passage 40…
- I am thinking about a policy.
My schedule is packed (a class at the Seminary with lots of homework, leading a Parish Bible study, Wife, children, job). I do not have time to prepare properly with a weeks notice. - If I can not make a scheduled ministry, Lector or EMHC, I give the date to a friend.
- I may read the other reading 2 or 3 times. I need to spend more time on this.
