How do you view the Catholic Church?
Do you believe the RCC to be the Church that Christ established?
Do you believe the RCC to be a Christian Church?
Do you believe the RCC to be in error and heretical in nature?

It wasnt meant to be combative. The purpose of the questions was to establish a basis for discussion on what i find as a key issue. if Christ promised that the gates of hell will not prevail against his church, What other church survived since the time of christ that exist today? The discussions that go back and forth over the meanings of certain scriptures skirts around this main issue. If protestants feel that the RCC is not the first christian church, then which church is it? If they feel that the RCC was, but isnt anymore. then explain what happened and how it is not Jesus’s church on earth anymore.

the Protestants I know seem to hold the position that early church was Jesus’s church but right away after his death, it “fell” away. and yes they do believe that RCC worship statutes and on the the “fringe” of Christianity. Mind you, these were just the people I know so other Protestants may hold different views. Not that any of them have anything to back these views up:rolleyes:

So, Bev, ow do you deal with someone like me?
=Bev17243;8730770]the Protestants I know seem to hold the position that early church was Jesus’s church but right away after his death, it “fell” away.
Poppycock. Lutherans, Anglicans, and others accept to one degree or another, the teachings of the early councils. Many confess the Creeds. If in fact the Church “fell away”, then certainly Lutherans “fell away” with it.

I don’t believe this at all.

So, if it is just some folks you know, why make the above blanket statement?

  1. In various ways, depending on the subject, but overall with admiration and respect.
  2. Certainly a large and I would say central part of it.
  3. Duh! ( Sorry, I couldn’t help it. 😃 )
  4. Depends on the doctrine. For me, the specific error is universal jurisdiction and papal infallibility ex cathedra.

There’s the issue when one sweeps all Protestants in one neat little corner. Cat posted a very good response on this and I can’t remember where.
